Cowgirl Doubles Team Earns Spot in Latest ITA Rankings

LARAMIE – Two members of the Wyoming tennis program, senior Dorottya Jonas and junior Magdalena Stencel, were recognized by the ITA as the third set of Oracle/ITA women’s Division I rankings were released on Tuesday.

Jonas and Stencel are currently 57th is the latest rankings. The pair went 2-2 overall in the fall, going 1-1 at the ITA All-American Championships. They defeated the team of Donika Bashota and Olaya Garrido-Rivas of TCU, 8-7 (5), during the tournament. Bashota and Garrido-Rivas are currently tenth overall in the latest rankings.

“This is a testament of the work these two individuals have both put in the last several years,” head coach Dean Clower said. “Dorottya (Jonas) is one of the most improved doubles players we have had and always plays a big role in our doubles play. Magdalena (Stencel) has the speed and hands along with instincts which make her an elite tennis player. Both of these young women have been vital to the overall success we’ve had over the last couple of seasons.”

Wyoming is currently 6-2 overall and riding a three-match winning streak. The team will return to action on Saturday against the Northern Colorado Bears. The match is set for 1 p.m. MT in Greeley.
