Nance honored for last week’s stellar play

LARAMIE – Wyoming’s Larry Nance Jr. earned several weekly accolades Monday. He was not only named the Mountain West Player of the Week by the conference office, but also tabbed the national player of the week by NBCSports.com and ESPN.com senior writer Andy Katz. The MW award was Nance’s third of his career and first this season.

The senior forward helped Wyoming to a 76-71 home win over UNLV, who was receiving votes, last Wednesday and a 64-59 road win at San Jose State last Saturday, as the Pokes are 2-0 in the MW for the first time since 2006-07. He averaged 23.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, 2.0 blocks and 1.5 steals in the two games, while shooting 63 percent (17-of-27) from the field and 80 percent (12-of-15) at the free throw line.

Against the Rebels, Nance posted 29 points, five rebounds, three blocks and two steals in 38 minutes of play. His 11 field goals tied a season high and helped him notch his fifth 20-point contest this season. The victory was Wyoming’s 12th-straight in the Arena-Auditorium.

Wyoming continues its season at Colorado State on Wednesday at 7 p.m. MT.
