On January 27, 2015, Officers of the Green River Police Department were dispatched to a Law Office in Green River, Wyoming. An attorney reported that they represent a local business owner, Ramesh Patel and his LLC. Ramesh Patel placed an order for $45,449.00 for the Super 8 Motel in Green River, Wyoming on January 31, 2014. Ramesh sent a check for $22,825.00, half of the order amount, to the company d’Hotel Supplies. Ramesh received an email from d’Hotel Supplies on February 21, 2014, confirming the receipt of the check. Since that time, no merchandise had been received.

On January 27, 2015, Ramesh’s attorney also reported that Ramesh had ordered merchandise for The Super 8 Motel in Rock Springs, Wyoming, in the amount of $59,290.00, and had written a check for half the amount, $29,645.00, as required by the company. The order was placed on January 31, 2014, and as of this date, Ramesh has not received any of the merchandise ordered and it appeared that the company was no longer in business. Ramesh received an email on September 9, 2014 from d’Hotel Supplies indicating that the shipment had been held in customs. There has been no further contact from d’Hotel Supplies.

On January 28, 2015, Detectives with the Green River Police Department spoke with Ramesh’s attorney and were advised the business d’Hotel Supplies was owned and operated by Nilay Shah with a business address in Iselin, New Jersey and a current phone number for Shah was obtained. Using the information provided by Ramesh’s attorney, contacting authorities in New Jersey and by using internet resources, Detectives were able to identify Nilay Shah.

Detectives learned the checks written by Ramesh were deposited into a bank account.

Detectives were able to obtain a search warrant for the bank account which was subsequently served that showed the checks were deposited into a business account whereas Nilay Shah was listed as the account holder.

On March 20, 2015, Detectives were able to contact Shah by telephone. Shah has not followed up with information as he said he would.

Throughout the course of the investigation, Detectives learned that Ramesh had also attempted to order supplies for his hotels located in Douglas, Wyoming and Miller, South Dakota. The checks issued from Ramesh’s hotel in Douglas, Wyoming and Miller, South Dakota totaled approximately $31,000.00 and no supplies have been received for either of these hotels.
