Pokes Entertain Utah State Tonight

LARAMIE– The Pokes continue their homestand on Wednesday hosting Utah State at 7 p.m. in the Arena-Auditorium.

The Pokes downed the Aggies 85-77 on January 20 in Logan in the first meeting this season, since then Utah State has won three-straight games with the Pokes winning four of their last five.

A Look at the Matchup

The Pokes are 15-8 overall and 6-4 in conference play after Saturday’s loss to Fresno State. The Pokes lead the Mountain West and rank eighth in the nation in defensive rebounds at 29.3 per game.

The Cowboys have made 440 free throws this season for 19.1 per game to lead the MW and rank fifth in the nation. Wyoming Has made 200 three pointers this season including 14 against Colorado State and 10 against Fresno State.

Senior forward Hayden Dalton adds 17.4 points per game. He has seven double-doubles on the season ranking fifth in the MW and No. 71 in the NCAA. He leads the team in rebounds at 8.3 per game.

Senior forward Alan Herndon leads UW in blocks at 2.2 per game for first in the MW and No. 29 in the nation. He has 51 total blocks this season that also leads the league and ranks No. 28 in the nation. He is third on the team in scoring at 12.2 per game.

Senior guard Louis Adams adds 9.3 points per game off the UW bench.

Utah State’s Leaders

The Aggies are led by sophomore guard Sam Merrill, as he adds 15.7 points per game. He leads the team with 60 three pointers shooting at a 43 percent clip from behind the arc.

Fellow sophomore guard Koby McEwen, the MW Player of the Week adds 15.1 points per game and leads the team with 61 assists on the year. He also leads USU in rebounding at 5.4 per game. Dwayne Brown, Jr. is third on the team averaging 9.9 points per game.

The Cowboys lead the all-time series 50-27. The Pokes are 30-6 all-time against the Aggies in Laramie. The Pokes held on for an 85-77 win over the Aggies in the first meeting, as Alan Herndon went over 1,000 career points in the contest.
