SWEETWATER COUNTY– The 2019 4A West Regional Basketball tournament will be hosted in Cody from Thursday, February 28 through Saturday, March 2.
Green River and Rock Springs will compete at the tournament for a spot at state next week. Other teams in the region include Cody, Jackson, Kelly Walsh, Riverton, Star Valley, and Evanston.
The Lady Wolves go into the regional tournament as the #2 southwest team. The Lady Tigers are #3 northwest.
The Wolves head into the tournament as the #3 southwest team, while the Tigers are #2 northwest.

Thursday, February 28
- Green River 45 Rock Springs 36
- The Lady Wolves and Lady Tigers lacked offense in the first half, with minimal points by both teams. The Lady Tigers had a 7-6 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Wolves took over the lead in the second quarter, bringing the first half to a close, 14-12. Both teams picked up the offense in the second half, the Lady Wolves adding 16 points in the third quarter, the Lady Tigers adding 10. Heading into the fourth quarter, Green River led 30-22. Both teams continued to fight for the win, however the Lady Wolves held onto their lead to bring the final score to 45-36.
- The Lady Wolves will take on Kelly Walsh tomorrow at 3:30 pm in the semi-finals.
Friday, March 1
- Green River 38 Kelly Walsh 39
- The Lady Wolves and the Lady Trojans played a tough and close contest in the semi-finals of the tournament. The game stayed close most of the game, with 10 ties and 5 lead changes throughout. The teams were tied at 11-11 at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Wolves led at halftime 19-17. Both teams put 10 points up in the third quarter, Green River leading at 29-27 heading into the final quarter. Green River and Kelly Walsh continued to play a close game in the fourth quarter. The Lady Wolves led 38-37 with a minute left, all the way up to the final buzzer when the Lady Trojans scored, bringing the score to 39-38, taking the win.
- The Lady Trojans qualified for state and will play in the region championships on Saturday.
- The Lady Wolves will play Cody on Saturday at 8:30 am.
Saturday, March 2
- Green River 51 Cody 48 Qualifies for the state tournament.Â
- The Lady Wolves led throughout most of the game, however, the Fillies kept it close. Green River led 15-10 at the end of the first quarter, and 25-19 at the end of the second. Cody closed the gap a bit after the half, the Lady Wolves leading 41-38 heading into the final quarter. The Lady Wolves had a nine point lead, 49-40, half-way through the fourth, when the Fillies came back and brought the score to a one-possession game at 49-46, with 20 seconds left in the contest. The Fillies were fouled with the score 49-48, however, the free throw was no good. With four seconds left in the contest, Cody attempted a shot which was blocked by Erika Wilson. With a little over a second on the clock, Ashelynn Birch was fouled. Birch made both of her frees, the Lady Wolves taking the win, 51-48.
- The Lady Wolves have qualified for the state tournament with this win.
- The Lady Wolves will play the Rock Springs Lady Tigers for 3rd place in the region at 3 pm
- Green River 35 Rock Springs 33 Lady Wolves take 3rd Place.Â
- The Lady Wolves and Lady Tigers played a tough, closely-matched game in their final contest of the regional tournament. Rock Springs led 10-9 at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Tigers led by one point at the end of the second quarter as well, 18-17. After the half, the Lady Wolves look over the lead as the added 10 points to their score. Heading into the final quarter, the Lady Wolves led 28-24. After a hard-fought game and fourth quarter, the Lady Wolves took the win, 35-33.
- The Lady Wolves placed third at the regional tournament with this win. Rock Springs took fourth.

- The Lady Tigers will play Jackson tomorrow at 9 am in a loser out contest.
Friday, March 1
- Rock Springs 38 Jackson 21
- The Lady Tigers put some tough defensive pressure on the Lady Broncs, only allowing Jackson to score six points in the first half. Rock Springs put nine points up in the first quarter and seven in the second, heading into halftime 16-6. After the half, the Lady Tigers scored 14 points in the third, while Jackson scored eight points. Rock Springs continued their defensive pressure in the final quarter, holding Jackson to three points, while they added eight to their score, taking the win 38-21.
- The Lady Tigers will take on the winner Star Valley and Evanston on Saturday at 10 am.
Saturday, March 2
- Rock Springs 43 Evanston 39 Qualifies for the state tournament.
- The Lady Tigers started off strong, putting up 21 points in the first quarter and holding the Lady Red Devils to just seven. Rock Springs added eight points in the second quarter, leading Evanston 29-14 at halftime. The Lady Red Devils picked up their offensive game in the third, the Lady Tigers leading by just two points, 32-20, at then end of the third. The Lady Tigers were able to seal the win, 43-39, qualifying for the state tournament.
- With this win, the Lady Tigers have secured a spot at the 4A state tournament next week.
- The Lady Tigers will take on the Lady Wolves for third place in the region at 3 pm today.

- The Lady Tigers placed fourth at the regional tournament, with Green River taking third.

Thursday, February 28
- Green River 55 Rock Springs 38
- The game started out with two free point shots for the Wolves due to a mess up in the books by the Tigers, resulting in a technical foul. The Wolves kept the momentum throughout the first quarter, putting 19 points up while holding the Tigers to just 6 points. The Wolves led at halftime, 26-19. The Tigers came out strong after the half, scoring 19 points in the third quarter, bringing the score within six points. Heading into the fourth quarter, the Wolves led 38-23. However, in the final quarter, the Wolves pulled away again, putting up 17 points and holding Rock Springs to 6 points. The Wolves came away with the 55-38 win.
- The Wolves will play Evanston on Friday at 8 pm in the semi-final round.
Friday, March 1
- Green River Evanston Semi-finals: Evanston vs. Green River – 8pm Winner qualifies for the state tournament.
- The Wolves led most of the game, however, the game stayed close between the Wolves and the Red Devils. The Wolves led 16-12 at the end of the first quarter. Putting up 10 more points, the Wolves headed into halftime with a 26-19 lead. Both teams played tough offense in the third quarter, the Wolves still in the lead, 41-34. In a well-deserved win, the Wolves took the contest, 60-51, earning a spot at state and a chance to play for the region title.
- This win marks the first time the Wolves have qualified for the state tournament since 2009. This is also the first time the Wolves will play for a regional title since 2008. This win also breaks the Wolves’ 22-game losing streak to the Evanston Red Devils.
- The Wolves will take on Kelly Walsh on Saturday at 4:30 pm for first place.
Saturday, March 2
- Green River 47 Kelly Walsh 67 Wolves take second place.
- The Wolves had a tough game against the Kelly Walsh Trojans. The Trojans led at the end of the first quarter, 15-9. The Wolves put up 10 points in the second quarter, while the Trojans added 19, making the score 34-19. The Wolves picked up their offense in the third quarter, however, they couldn’t stop the Trojans. Heading into the fourth quarter, the score was 49-37 in favor of Kelly Walsh. The Trojans built their lead up even more in the final quarter, securing the 67-47 win.
- The Wolves placed second in the 4A West region. The Trojans took first.
- The Wolves will play the Campbell County Camels in their first game of the 4A state tournament.

- The Tigers took on the Cody Broncs on the Broncs’ home court, in which the Tigers lost 49-63 in a loser out game. The Tigers’ season came to a close, as they will not continue to the state championship next week.
