The 12th annual Art on the Green will take place on Friday, August 19 and Saturday, August 20 in Green River at the Expedition Island pavilion. It will feature the 24-Hour Live Sculpting and 2D Competition along with the 2nd annual Battle on the Green. We are still looking for artists to participate in the events for a chance to win prize money and an opportunity to showcase their abilities.

24-Hour Live Sculpting and 2D Competition
General Rules and Information
2D and 3D Competitors Will Provide:
- The armature, base, and heating device for clay sculptures
- The easel, canvas, paint/pencils, brushes and matte or frame (to display the final work)
- Individual light source (i.e. table lamp)
The City of Green River Will Provide:
- Clay – 20 pounds
- A protected area (building and/or tent)
- A work area approximately 4′ X 10′
- A work surface 30″ X 6′ table and chair
- A 30″ x 6′ space or table to display and sell your table-size artwork
Competition Rules
3D pieces using clay provided by GRAC may not exceed 16″ in height, 20″ in length, and 20″ in width; 3D pieces using media provided by the artist may be any size deemed appropriate by the artist. 2D pieces may not exceed what will fit on an easel. This is an individual competition, all sculpting and/or drawing/painting will be done by the artist (no helpers).
The entire 2D or 3D piece must be completed and professionally displayed in the given time allotted (24 hours) in order to be judged.
- All 2D and 3D art must be first-time pieces. (Original work – no copies)
- Only the armature that will be used for the competition may be pre-built.
- Pre-built parts for the sculpture are not permitted.
- Only hand tools are allowed for the competition.
- An under-drawing/paintings in neutral colors may be pre-drawn.
Approved Reference Materials:
- Artists’ own sketches
- Photographs
- Multiple image sources
- Artist maquette
Prohibited Reference Materials:
- Photographs of other artists’ work
- Other artists’ copyrighted material
Artists will be allowed to bring art for display and sale, and submit pieces for the silent auction (table top size only).
Artwork created at the competition may be sold through a silent auction process following the competition. A 20 percent commission of all sales during the competition will be collected by GRAC.
**The Green River Arts Council reserves the right to refuse the display of artwork which is not family oriented.

2nd Annual Battle on the Green
The Green River Arts Council’s 2nd annual, live Battle on the Green is set to take place on Friday night at Art on the Green. The battle kicks off on Friday, August 19th with three battling rounds. Join us as we watch the creative process come to life. Winner of the Battle on the Green will be crowned Battle Champion and have bragging rights for the next year.
General Rules and Information
Battle on the Green competitors will need to provide:
- Their own medium: oil, acrylic, pastel watercolor etc.
- Their own paint/pencils, brushes and mat or frame (to display the final work)
The City of Green River Will Provide:
- A canvas 24″ x 30″
- A protected area (tent)
- A work area
Competition Rules:
- There are 12 spots reserved for competitors on a first-come-first-serve basis.
- The payout will be based on the number of competitors in the event.
- Each round will consist of a 45-minute battle time in which each competitor will have to create a work of art.
- There will be three battle times leading to “Battle Champion”.
- Friday night battle rounds as follows:
- Battle one starts at 4 pm, all 12 competitors battle for a spot in top 6 battle
- Battle two starts at 5 pm, top 6 competitors battle for a spot in top 3 battle
- Final battle begins at 6 pm, top 3 competitors battle for Battle Champion
- Battle winners will be chosen by people’s choice voting. Each contestant will have a container placed in front of their work area and the public will be given tokens to vote on their favorite pieces. The tokens will then be counted for the top spots in each round.
- The topic for each round will be chosen by the Green River Arts Council. (Example: Round 1 category “Life on the Green”)
