I-80 Road Construction Underway Near Wamsutter

WAMSUTTER — The Wyoming Department of Transportation will begin work on Interstate 80 in the Wamsutter area this week. Highway operations will be underway on 12 miles east of Wamsutter between mileposts 174-187.

Interstate traffic will be diverted to head-to-head traffic in the eastbound lane tentatively this week so construction operations can get underway in the westbound lane. Speeds will be reduced to 65 mph throughout the work zone. Wide loads will be limited to 16 feet throughout the construction area.

“This project work will include milling, paving and bridge rehabilitation in the westbound lane. The Continental Divide interchange at mp 184 will be upgraded as well,” WYDOT Resident Engineer Leslie Ranta said.

McGarvin-Moberly Construction Company from Worland was awarded the contract for $12.2 million.

Preliminary work began in the fall of 2014 and the project completion date is set for September 30, 2015.

However, crews hope to complete the paving operations by July, 2015.

WYDOT would like to remind drivers to slow down in work zones, obey all construction signs and speed limits and be alert and cautious of roadside workers. For more information on road construction, closures and weather conditions, please visit http://www.wyoroad.info.
