ROCK SPRINGS — Rocky Mountain Power recently announced that the Town of Superior’s Community and Events Center will receive $61,600 to install a rooftop solar-array on their renovated, energy-efficient center.
The Blue Sky program funds will allow the Town of Superior to install a 16.8 kilowatt array, which will help the town reduce operating costs and provide a source of back-up power during emergencies.

“The Town of Superior is motivated to go green and will make a strong community partner with the Blue Sky program,” said Leslie Blythe, Rocky Mountain Power regional business manager. “The solar panels will also provide a very visual lesson for everyone in the community about the benefits of renewable energy.”
The Town of Superior, outside of Rock Springs, currently hosts all major community activities at its administration and gymnasium building and plans to re-build the gymnasium after 60 years of use. The new facility will also be used as a shelter during emergencies.
“This center means everything to our community,” said Superior Mayor Roe Miller. “We want to thank Rocky Mountain Power’s Blue Sky customers for making the solar panels possible. The planned center will show our town’s commitment to grow in the future.”
An information kiosk in the new building’s lobby will educate community members about Rocky Mountain Power’s Blue Sky program and solar power.
Blue Sky funding awards help organizations save on operating costs, freeing up more resources for all of the important work that they do. For instance, Blue Sky customers served by Rocky Mountain Power have awarded:
- 19 projects at houses of worship
- 10 at humane societies, zoos and other organizations focused on wildlife and nature protection, animal welfare or preservation
- 13 at public spaces including community centers, recreation, public transportation, fair grounds, expo/convention centers and more
- 7 at fire and police stations
- 4 at food banks and low income housing providers
- 6 at public health and veterans support facilities
For more than a decade, Rocky Mountain Power’s Blue Sky program has provided an easy and convenient way for customers to “green” their electricity by supporting renewable energy development in the western United States, including in Wyoming. More than 4,200 Blue Sky customers in Wyoming support renewable energy and provide funding to build new locally-owned renewable energy projects for as little as $1.95 each month. “Blue Sky is just one example of Rocky Mountain Power’s commitment to renewable energy and providing customers with the energy choices they want, while also keeping our prices and policies fair to all customers,” said Blythe.
