ROCK SPRINGS – That familiar sound of a baseball popping the pocket of a leather glove can once again be heard throughout fields in Wyoming as American Legion Baseball has started play. While they have not hit the field competitively yet, Archie Hay Post 24 continues to be busy as they prepare for the upcoming season.
The team will get things going this season on the road. They open the year on May 2 and May 3 at the Green River Round Robin Tournament. They will return to Green River May 5 for a double header battle with the Knights followed by a double header in Evanston on May 7.
Post 24 will open up home play May 9 and May 10 as the host the Archie Hay Post 24 Tournament. Green River, Evanston and Laramie are scheduled to compete.
Post 24 has been hard at it as they began winter practice in January, once again utilizing one of the indoor halls at the Sweetwater Events Complex. The team also added a new coaching staff over the off-season. Archie Hay Post 24 named Trevor Arnold  as the new head coach and also added assistant coach Lorenzo Webb.
Arnold is a native of Oregon having played high school baseball in Eugene. He then attended and played baseball at Lane Community College in Oregon and then transferred to Dakota Wesleyan University in South Dakota where on scholarship he began as a player and ended as a coach.
Arnold was instrumental in turning around the baseball program in Mitchell, S.D., where he was the coach for the VFW Teener Program beginning in 2005. He held various positions within the program including schedule coordinator, Mitchell Schools Junior High Head Coach and Director of Operations.
Webb, a native of Rock Springs, played Archie Hay Post 24 Legion Baseball from 2006-2011. He was named All-State in his final year of legion baseball. Webb attended Miles Community College in Montana for three years. Webb was a member of the Pioneers baseball team and was redshirted his freshman year. While there, the Pioneers won two conference championships and one Region IX title.
Another new event which took place over the offseason was the first sponsor appreciation night. At this event it was announced Post 24 is working on a new mascot for the upcoming season. Players also received good news as they were informed varsity letters will be presented to top players this season.
Recently, the team also announced its annual fundraising event to support the program.
A great night is planned for the Archie Hay Post 24 American Legion annual Baseball Bash, Friday, April 24th at Santa Fe Trail Restaurant. There will be a great selection of silent auction items and live auction items like tickets to sporting event and much more.
