KEMMERER WYOMING — The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Kemmerer Field Office is seeking public comment on Tata Chemicals’ lease application to expand its existing trona mining operation 10 miles southwest of Green River, Wyo. The 30-day public scoping period will help the BLM to prepare an environmental assessment that analyzes Tata Chemicals’ lease application and determine if the federal mineral estate will be offered in a competitive lease sale.

The proposed expansion totals 400 acres of BLM-administered federal mineral estate is in the checkerboard pattern of mixed public, private and state owned land.

If Tata is the successful bidder, this lease would be used to expand their current operation which consists of an underground trona mine and associated soda ash plant which have been in operation since 1968. No surface disturbance, operations or facilities are proposed in the potential expansion.
