SWEETWATER COUNTY — The Bureau of Land Management Kemmerer Field Office announces the availability of an environmental assessment for the Competitive Sodium Lease Section 12, located in Sweetwater County, Wyoming.

Tata Chemicals submitted a lease application to expand its existing trona mining operation 10 miles southwest of Green River, Wyoming. The proposed expansion totals 400 acres of BLM-administered federal mineral estate in the checkerboard pattern of mixed public, private and state-owned land.

If Tata is the successful bidder, this lease would be used to expand its current operation, which consists of an underground trona mine and associated soda ash plant which have been in operation since 1968. No surface disturbance, operations or facilities are proposed in the potential expansion.
