CHEYENNE — On December 2, 2020, a fatal crash occurred around milepost 4.4 on US 14A northeast of Cody, Wyoming. At 1:14 pm, Wyoming Highway Patrol troopers were notified of a motor vehicle collision.
A 2006 Nissan Xterra was westbound on US 14A exiting a right-hand curve when the driver lost control of the vehicle on the ice and snow-covered roadway. The Nissan crossed into the eastbound lanes and collided with a 2016 Freightliner Conventional.
The driver of the Nissan has been identified as 34-year-old Cody, Wyoming resident Dylan J. Ray. Ray was not wearing a seatbelt and was transported to the West Park Hospital for injuries sustained in the crash. On December 4, 2020, Ray succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
The driver of the Freightliner has been identified as 30-year-old Riverton, Wyoming resident Travis W. Cook. Cook was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured in the crash.
Speed is being investigated on the part of Ray as a possible contributing factor.
This is the 120th fatality on Wyoming’s roadways in 2020 compared to 142 in 2019, 107 in 2018, and 119 in 2017 to date.
