ROCK SPRINGS — The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 24’s annual cookie drive was a major success this year and made an impression not only on the veterans who were helped by the program but also on the participants.

The experience of helping veterans in their own words:

With help from American Legion Auxiliary unit 28, Cowboy Donuts, American Legion Post 24 plus family and the community we were able to donate 426 dozen cookies along with a variety of homemade breads, muffins and, of course, the famous Cowboy Donuts.

Thank you all for your generous contributions, we could not have done this without you!

To say the staff and veterans were a little overwhelmed with all the goodies would be a understatement. The staff welcomed all the donations with open arms, they brought a gurney and several wheel chairs to help bring all the goodies inside.

As we were unloading all of the goodies an elderly gentleman in his late 80’s came to help with tears in his eyes. He thanked us over and over again and expressed to us how much it meant to him saying “God bless you, thank you”.

We were allowed to assist the ER staff and 2 nurses with delivering the goodies to different parts of the hospital at the VA.

Talk about a moment that will make your heart smile.

As we all said our goodbyes, we exchanged thank yous with an amazing feeling of love and gratitude. What a great feeling it was to be reaching out to our veterans.

Thank you again to everyone who donated to our veterans at the VA we could have not done this without each and everyone of you.

We would like to send a special thank you to the VA hospital in Cheyenne for their hospitality and great big thank you to our veterans for without your sacrifices none of this would be possible!
