Cornhole Group Looks to Host Event in Green River this Summer

GREEN RIVER — Due to Flaming Gorge Days being postponed until summer of 2022, local sports league 307 Cornhole proposed a possible summer event to take place in June during the Green River City Council workshop Tuesday night.

Zac Page, a representative of 307 Cornhole, said that the group would like to host an event in Green River from June 11 through June 13.

“With the announcement of Flaming Gorge Days being canceled, we all decided that we would like to try to fill the void and give the community something, an activity,” Page said.

The initial plans for the event include a three-day cornhole tournament, three-on-three basketball, local bands, food vendors, and other activities for kids and families. He said a few local nonprofit groups have shown interest in partnering on the event to provide family events.

Page said the cornhole group has plenty of volunteers to put the event on and they would adhere to any COVID-19 Coronavirus guidelines when preparing for and hosting the event.

He added that any money made from the event would go toward creating an association for 307 Cornhole, but money is not the intention of the event. According to Page, cornhole is a growing interest and his hopes are to spread the sport throughout the state and increase tourism to Wyoming and Green River.

“In the last couple events we have done we have had people travel from seven states to come and hang out,” Page said. “We feel like we have a good draw and we can bring a lot of tourism and money spent in our community to help grow our community and local businesses.”

According to Page, the group plays twice weekly, and each time they have 40 to 50 people playing.

Page said all they are asking of the city is to simply provide whatever it’s willing to help with, whether that be facilities, ID scanners if alcohol is served, barricades, or anything else.

Mayor Pete Rust said that they will make sure 307 Cornhole is connected with the right city staff to work out the event details.
