Cowgirls getting ready take part in New Mexico State “Give ‘Em Five” Tourney

LARAMIE – The Cowgirls are getting ready to head to New Mexico to take part in the New Mexico State Price’s “Give ‘Em Five” Intercollegiate next Monday to Wednesday. The Cowgirls then head to the DU Ron Moore Intercollegiate next Friday to Sunday.

The Cowgirls had a great weekend at the Wyoming Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate shooting their best team score of the season at 943 (+80). UW shot their lowest round of the season in the final round with a 309 (+79). Redshirt freshman Gabrielle Gibson made her return to California at the Wyoming Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate and it was a special one.

She led the Cowgirls finishing tied for 14th at 231 (+15), it was her first top-15 finish of her career and the best finish by a Cowgirl this season. She shot career-low rounds of 76 (+4) in the first two rounds of play.

Freshman Sarah Hankins made her first appearance as a Cowgirl and it was impressive. She played as an individual and finished tied for 36th at 237 (+21). She shot a career-low round of 76 (+4) in the final round.

Last Season the Cowgirls recorded the second-best team score in school history with an 897 (+33) to finish eighth in the final team standings at the Price’s “Give ‘Em Five” Intercollegiate last season. The Cowgirls shot a 299 (+11) in the final round to give them their best score since UW shot an 898 (+34) at the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic in 2009.

The Cowgirls return to the Denver University Ron Moore Intercollegiate next weekend. It is the first time since 2009 that the Cowgirls have participated in the event. UW finished eighth during that event in 2009.
