LARAMIE — The University of Wyoming soccer team continues its five-week road stretch Friday when the Cowgirls travel to Montana for a 5 p.m. match at South Campus Stadium in Missoula.
Wyoming is 5-2-0 following a perfect weekend in Washington, where the Cowgirls defeated Gonzaga 1-0 on Sept. 3 and Eastern Washington 2-0 on Sept. 6. The victories extended Wyoming’s winning streak to three matches.
The trip to Montana is Wyoming’s second consecutive road weekend, but the Cowgirls will play only one match before returning home. With the Mountain West Conference schedule approaching, coach Josh Purdum said recovery will be a priority.
“(Gonzaga and Eastern Washington) was our first road trip, and we are going to feel it a bit,” Purdum said. “So, we’ll have two lighter days rather than just working ourselves back into simulating a game. It will be a good time to recover, especially as we get closer to conference. We need to make sure we are getting to the next couple of weeks as healthy as possible and taking advantage of the fitness we’ve gained.”
Wyoming is ranked No. 10 in the most recent Pacific Region Coaches’ Poll and has outscored opponents 14-6 this season.
The Cowgirls also continue to develop scoring depth. Erin Dahl’s first-career goal against Eastern Washington gave Wyoming seven different goal scorers this season, matching the team’s total from 2025. Alisa Bunn added a goal in the same match, giving Wyoming four players with multiple goals this season. The Cowgirls did not have four players reach that mark in 2025.
Alyssa Glover leads Wyoming with four goals and two assists for 10 points, with both totals ranking second in the Mountain West. Bunn, Maddie Burr and Isabel Vasco each have two goals. Vasco has added three assists for seven points, while Burr has two assists for six points. Both rank among the top 10 in the conference in points. Haley Bartel has allowed five goals while making 19 saves for a 0.74 goals-against average, which ranks third in the Mountain West. Her four shutouts lead the conference.
Montana enters Friday’s match at 2-4-0 and has yet to defeat a Division I opponent in the first season under its new head coach. The Grizzlies have been outscored 12-4 and are coming off a 2-0 loss at Denver.
Elli Lewis leads Montana with two goals, the only Grizzly with multiple goals this season. Avery Heeb has started five of Montana’s six matches in goal and has 14 saves, eight goals allowed and a 1.68 goals-against average.
Montana leads the all-time series 7-3-5. The teams have played to a draw in six of their last six meetings, including a 3-3 tie in Laramie in 2024.
Friday’s match is Wyoming’s penultimate nonconference game. The Cowgirls will close the nonconference portion of their schedule Sept. 17 at Colorado State, with the match scheduled for 7 p.m. at CSU Soccer Field.
The match will be streamed on ESPN-Plus.
