Cowgirls Wrap Up Second Day of MW Championship; Woodard shot Wyoming’s low round of the day at 76 (+4)

 RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. (April 25, 2014) – The University of Wyoming Cowgirl golf team turned in a score of 317 (+29) on the second day of the Mountain West Championship on Friday on the Dinah Shore Tournament Course at Mission Hills Country Club. UW is in ninth place in the nine team event at 627 (+51). Sophomore Emily Woodard continues to lead the Cowgirls sitting in 14th place on the par-72, 6,324 yard course in Rancho Mirage, Calif.

“The course played a little tougher today and we struggled with some hole locations,” UW coach Josey Stender said.

Woodard turned in a score of 76 (+4) on Friday, as she has now recorded six straight rounds of 77 or less dating back to the Mountain View Intercollegiate on March 28. After the first two-rounds of play Woodard stands at 150 (+6). Senior Stacey Blunt ended the second round at 77 (+5), as she is tied for 21st place with a two-round total of 153 (+9).

“Emily (Woodard) and Stacey (Blunt) rallied late in their rounds and I think that will give them great momentum going into tomorrow,” Stender said.

Senior Emily Wood stands tied for 40th place at 163 (+19) after two rounds. She turned in a score of 81 (+9) on Friday afternoon. Junior Samantha Stancato turned in a score of 88 (+16) in the second round, as she is in 43rd place at 166 (+22). Freshman Mackenzie Barrie rounds out the Cowgirls scoring with a two-round tally of 171 (+27) after turning in an 83 (+11) on Friday.

New Mexico took control of first place during the second day of competition with a two-round tally of 589 (+13). Fresno State is in second with a score of 592 (+16). UNLV made a hard charge on the second day with the lowest round of the tournament at 290 (+2), as they sit in third with a total of 593 (+17).

Four individuals are tied atop of the leader board after 36-holes of play. UNLV’s Dana Finkelstein, New Mexico’s Manon Molle, Fresno State’s Gudrun Bjorgvinsdottir and Madchen Ly are all at 142 (-2).

The final round of the MW Championship will begin Saturday at 8 a.m. MT. Fans can follow live results through Golfstat.com.
