Crouch and Piaia lead Lady Tigers to fourth-place finish at Indoor Track and Field Championships; Green River’s Josie Givens named All-State with second-place finish in 800

ROCK SPRINGS – A lot of familiar names topped the lady’s leaderboard at the Wyoming State Indoor Track and Field Championships this past weekend. For Rock Springs, it was Karli Piaia and Maliya Crouch who led the way while Josie Givens paced the Lady Wolves of Green River.

As a team, the Rock Springs Lady Tigers finished in fourth place. Gillette ran away from the field taking first with 154. Natrona was second with 69 points while Laramie finished third with 66 points. The Lady Tigers finished with 51 points to earn fourth while Cody and Sheridan tied for the fifth spot with 48 points.

Individually, two Lady Tigers brought home state titles. It was not a big surprise to look at the top of the shot put leaderboard and see Maliya Crouch. She took the title with a throw of 41-05.50 with Gillette’s Elizabeth Maller finishing second with a throw of 40-04.25.

For Karli Piaia, she already has one state title in this year’s cross country season and a special award after being named the Gatorade Cross Country Runner of the Year. She added yet another over the weekend as she cross the line in first in the 3200 meters. She finished 20 seconds ahead of second place with a time of 11:22.92. Piaia just missed a second title in the 1600 meters as she came in second.

Lady Tiger Alyse Henry had a solid meet with two, top-ten finishes. Her highest finish was in the 800 as she crossed the line in the third position. She was just under five seconds off the top time. She followed it with an eighth place in the 1600 meters.

Bobbi Parker also had a strong meet for Rock Springs. She sprinted to a fifth-place finish in the 55 meters with a time of 7.58. The top time was 7.19 posted by Makayla Pzinski of Gillette. She just missed a second top-ten finish crossing the line in the 200 meters in the 11th position.

Other top tens for the Lady Tigers were Bailee Radakovich who finished ninth in the 800 meters and Erikka Soto who finished ninth in the shot put. Sheridan Klingensmith just missed a top-ten finish in 3200 meters finishing in 11th.

 

Green River Lady Wolves

As a team, the Lady Wolves finished in 10th with 18 points. Green River had several strong performances led by Josie Givens who had two, top-five finishes. Her highest finished with in the 800 as she just missed a state title finishing in second. Givens finished with a time of 2:22.20 which was just off Sydney Wendt’s top time of 2:19.87. In the 1600 meters, Givens took her second top-five finish crossing the line in fourth.

The other top ten for Green River was in the 55-meter hurdles. Holly Huber finished in the fourth position with a time of 8.84. She was just off the top time of 8.56 posted by Laramie’s Taylor Arsaga.
