ROCK SPRINGS — The Sweetwater County School District No. 1 board of trustees on Monday announced the expected graduation dates for the classes of 2019.
The dates will be a week earlier than this past school year, so as to avoid having graduation ceremonies on Memorial Day weekend.
The times for the graduation ceremonies remain tentative, as discussion was held regarding possibly moving the times to earlier in the day in order to accommodate family members coming from out of town.
There may be some people who will like the change and others who may not like the change, trustee Carol Jelaco said. She added that the district should spread the word regarding the reasons for the date changes through either a press release, or other means.
Rock Springs High School is currently scheduled to have its 2019 graduation ceremony on Sunday, May 19, at 7 p.m.
Black Butte High School is currently scheduled to have graduation ceremonies on Monday, May 20 at 7 p.m.
Farson-Eden High School is currently scheduled to celebrate graduation on Thursday, May 23, at 6 p.m.
Desert School in Wamsutter is scheduled to have an eighth grade reception on Wednesday, May 22 at 7 p.m. Students from Wamsutter move on to high school in Rawlins.
School bus routes approved
Board members approved the bus routes for 2018-2019. Jelaco requested information regarding the procedure if parents or anyone else has a concern regarding the bus routes.
Human Resources Director Nicole Bolton responded that the first people to contact would be the Transportation Department. However, parents sometimes contact the Human Resources Office or Superintendent Kelly McGovern.
“We try to work out a solution,”Bolton said.
Board vice chairman Paul Kauchich, conducting the meeting in the absence of chairman Lenny Hay, said that alternate routes had been approved as part of the route system.
Vendors approved
With trustee Emma Waldner abstaining, board members voted to approve adding the following prospective vendors to the list: Red Horse Oil Company, Cardwell Distribution Company, Homax Oil Sales Kellerstrass Oil Company, Wamsutter Conoco for Wamsutter, and Eaton Investments for Farson.
Approval of the prospective vendors means that they will be contacted when there is a project bid opportunity for which they may qualify.
