SUPERIOR — According to Chief Dan Watts of the Superior Fire Department the final determination of the cause of an explosion in a basement of a building on Main Street is still unknown. No one was present and the building suffered only minor damage. The blast was reportedly occurred around six p.m. last night.
Chief Watts described the building as an old bakery on Main Street formerly used by the Young at Heart Center and has also been used by the town to host meetings.
“The current owner bought it a while back and is remodeling,” Chief Watts said.
A Sweetwater County Deputy processed the scene today according to Chief Watts.
Chief Watts said the cause is still undetermined but may possibly be a gas accumulations ignited by a wood stove.
Sweetwater County Fire District Number One and Superior Fire responded to the incident yesterday.
