Facility Maintenance: SWC District No. 1 Updated on RSHS, Walnut and Sage Projects

“I’ve been on this board for four years and you’re a breath of fresh air. When you do something, it’s done right. We’re not doing the same thing over and over again.” – Trustee Neil Kourbelas told the facilities director

Facilities Director Dan Selleroli provided the board with an update regarding summer maintenance work that was being done, with a focus on Sage Elementary and Rock Springs High School.

The Sage parking lot is expected to be fully paved by Wednesday of next week, Selleroli said.

Air conditioning at RSHS will continue to be an issue, he added. Evaporation coolers have been fixed, as part of an overall project. Selleroli expressed hope to design a more permanent solution.

“The sprinkler system at Walnut Elementary is 95% completed”, he added.

Maintenance work has had to be done with students sometimes in the buildings, Selleroli said, with summer school and Board of Cooperative Educational Services programs functioning. These are good programs, Selleroli declared, and he added that he did not want maintenance work to get in the way of these programs functioning during summertime.

Other school districts manage to get summer maintenance work done with students around, Selleroli explained.

“They don’t shut down schools for two months for maintenance”, he said. “Other districts have 12-month school operations, and maintenance staff will have to learn to do their tasks with students sometimes around.”

Trustee Neil Kourbelas thanked Selleroli for his excellent work.

“I’ve been on this board for four years and you’re a breath of fresh air,” Kourbelas told the Facilities Director. “When you do something, it’s done right. We’re not doing the same thing over and over again.”
