Faulty Oil Gasket Results in Vehicle Fire This Afternoon

Two out-of-state travelers were unharmed when their vehicle suddenly caught fire on Gateway Blvd. today.

ROCK SPRINGS — On Thursday, August 30 at approximately 3:25 p.m. the Rock Springs Police Department and Rock Springs Fire Department responded to a vehicle fire on the service road between Sonic Drive-In and Wal-Mart.

The front of the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames when they arrived. The fire was quickly put out by the Fire Department with no further losses.

The two occupants of the vehicle were able to get out safely.  The occupants were just traveling through Rock Springs headed to Washington State.

The owner reported that he had a bad oil pan gasket and he was taking the vehicle to a repair shop, when he smelled something burning and saw the dash was dripping.

He immediately stopped the vehicle, got his son out and ran for help.  The vehicle appears to be a total loss.

The Rock Springs Evangelical Free Church has stepped in to provide assistance to the occupants.
