NEBRASKA – A big day by Neale Jones was not enough as Nebraska won for the first time on its home soil as the best 6-man players from Wyoming and Nebraska collided this past weekend.
The Farson-Eden standout, shined in the loss. He completed nine of the ten passes he threw on the day with three of them going for scores. His nine passes covered 211 yards. Jones also had 13 yards on the ground.
Jones’ first touchdown toss came in the first quarter. Jones was able to connect with Meeteetse’s Carter Johnson for a 30-yard score. That would even the game up at 14. Nebraska was able to hold a slight advantage at half, 28-20.
After Nebraska scored twice to open up the second half, Jones would again look to keep the Wyoming group close. This time, Jones and Johnson would connect for a 65-yard score. The score would have Wyoming within 17 with 9:44 left in the third quarter, 43-26.
With Nebraska running away in the end, Jones would put the final score on the board. With 49 second remaining and Nebraska up 59-26, Jones would connect with Ten Sleep’s Quentin Fettig from 10 yards out.
This was the fifth game in the series between the two states. The 59-32 Nebraska win marks the first time they have won on their home field.
