ROCK SPRINGS – A motorcycle accident in the early morning hours on Saturday claimed the life of a female.
According to Sgt. Tim Robinson of the Rock Springs Police Department, shortly after 3 a.m. on Saturday, officers were dispatched to the area of Paulson Street. Robinson said a vehicle driving in the area called dispatch after noticing two people and a motorcycle lying in the roadway.
The callers told dispatchers the female was not breathing and unresponsive. Robinson said first responders confirmed the female was deceased and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The male was in and out of consciousness as first responders worked on him. He was transported to Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County and was later flown out due to severe head injuries. He is currently hospitalized and there was not an update on his condition at this time.
The crash is still under investigation. Robinson said it appears the driver hit a curb and slid “quite a distance.” As to why the motorcycle hit the curb is still being investigated. He added who was driving the motorcycle at the time of the accident is also still under investigation.
Robinson did say speed does not appear to be a factor in crash as the initial investigation shows the estimated speed at the time of the accident was 30 mph.
Sweetwater County Coroner Dale Majhanovich also spoke to SweetwaterNOW on Saturday. He said they are still trying to notify next of kin and at this point cannot release the female’s identity.
