ROCK SPRINGS – Are you looking for an affordable fun way to spend more time with your family while getting a little exercise as well. One of the community’s favorite summer events is back and kicks off this Monday.

The first of six Family Fun Runs this summer will take place Monday, June 8 at the Rock Springs Civic Center. Registration starts at 6 p.m. at the Civic Center with the run starting at 6:30 p.m. The best part about it, the runs are free and open to everyone.

Whether you’re a beginner or competitive runner, the low-key run/walk is a great way to spend time with friends and family in a safe environment.  The run is typically no more than 50 minutes, although 50 is not a magic number.  The Civic Center Program Department  tries to have runs go “out and back” so that everyone can start and finish together and run at their own pace with others of similar ability.

New runners may only want to run a mile or two; experienced athletes might do a tempo run. Walking is also encouraged. An adult must be present for children 12-years-old and under.

Each race is a themed race. Monday has a super hero theme and participants are asked to dress up like their favorite super hero. Runners do not have to participate in the theme to run but officials encourage residents to take part in the fun.

On June 22, the Family Fun Run will have a zombie theme and will start at Walnut Elementary. On July 6, one of the most popular races will hit the track as a color run will take place at Pilot Butte Middle School. On July 20 at Century West Park the department will host the suds, slip and slide run while on Aug. 3 a poker run will take place. Where the Aug. 3 race will take place has not been determined at this time.

The final Family Fun Run will be on Aug. 17 at the Central Administration Building with a glow stick theme.
