Freedom | Realities

There are certain realities that exist when a person repents of their sins and declares Jesus as the Lord of their life. When we learn those realities we lay a foundation for a much more powerful way of living. What are they?

Romans 8:1-2 (NLT) So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. 2 And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death.

Your Emancipation Is Complete.

You are Free from Cultural Expectations, Traditions of Men, and the Rules of Society. Jesus stirred up a lot of trouble over this one. He did things on the Sabbath. Specifically, he healed people on the Sabbath. He did it on purpose to reveal the heart of all such rules. . .  control. Rule makers love to control other people. They don’t like your freedom, but they love having power over others.

Jesus established a way of life that was free to love, not bound by the culture of society. Legalism is always a means to practice sin and immorality. You know you are in trouble when righteousness is outlawed, sin is legalized and it’s illegal to do what is right.

You are Free From God’s Law. This is a tricky one. You should know that the entire world is under God’s law and the curses or blessings that it holds. The new covenant that God has instituted must be entered by choice, a death to self, and a resurrection or a rebirth of sorts.

You are freed by a HIGHER LAW, a higher court if you will. If you live by the “law of the spirit of life” then the law of Moses is beneath you. You will fulfill the Law of Moses easily if you are empowered by God’s Spirit within you.

You are Free From Sin. Its curse, condemnation, and power are broken. I did not say you are free to sin. You are free from sin. Sin’s curse, power, condemnation, and its practice have all been broken.

If that’s true, why are Christians struggling with so much sin? Simple answer: You cannot live your life like the world does and expect God’s blessing. Change your behaviors. Go after Jesus and you will find better things, and victory you didn’t know could be yours.

Ephesians 1:3 (NLT) All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ.

Jesus’ Authority Empowers Us

It seems that there are 3 Realms in the Multiverse.  These include the world as it is perceived by our senses.  The “air” or eternal and supernatural realm that is everywhere. And, the Heavens, where God’s throne and mission control exist. Some call these realms the Earth, the Second Heaven, and the Third Heaven.

The point is, you are over the dirt on which you stand or sit. The powers of darkness are over you and the dirt, because of Adam’s sin. And, angels, heavenly beings, Jesus, the Spirit, and the Father are over it all. This is how time and eternity work together.

Colossians 3:1 (NLT) Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand.

You are Something New. Because of Jesus’ finished work on the cross, the tomb, and the resurrection, you have received a higher place. You have been given a higher authority. You have been seated, established IN Christ, at Father’s right hand, over sin, over condemnation, over the destructive works of the devil. You have authority.

Romans 8:9 (NLT) But you are not controlled by your sinful nature. You are controlled by the Spirit if you have the Spirit of God living in you. (And remember that those who do not have the Spirit of Christ living in them do not belong to him at all.)

God’s Spirit Inhabits Us.

You are Being Controlled by Sin or by Freedom. Mankind was not designed to be an independent creation. We will always be ruled, either by sin or by spirit, by life or death, by light or darkness, and by slavery or freedom. It seems like it should be an easy choice, but the deception of the enemy, and our own Godless insanity, make freedom look to us like slavery.  And often slavery looks like freedom.

Romans 8:10 (NLT) And Christ lives within you, so even though your body will die because of sin, the Spirit gives you life because you have been made right with God.

The Spirit Gives You Life. You bear God’s image by His creation of You. You carry His spirit by His salvation of you. Your spirit was dead in sin, but disciples are alive in Christ. God’s Spirit gives life to this collective body and mind, as well as to your body, your mind. It is God’s spirit that gives life to the wonderful things God calls you to do (2 Thess 1:11).

Romans 8:12-13 (NLT) Therefore, dear brothers and sisters, you have no obligation to do what your sinful nature urges you to do. 13 For if you live by its dictates, you will die. But if through the power of the Spirit you put to death the deeds of your sinful nature, you will live.

The Spirit Puts to Death. Those sins we referred to earlier, they gotta go. We need to stop giving ourselves a pass on our sins and embrace repentance and forgiveness. Sin kills. It kills everything it touches. It’s like Roundup to your soul. There is nothing more serious to our well-being than the sins we hold dear.

So, what will you do with these truths? How could you come to understand them?
