FARSON — A Farson man wanted by local authorities after absconding from probation was arrested during a traffic stop today and may now face additional drug and weapons charges.
Sheriff Mike Lowell said that Gregory Joseph Lee, 26, is wanted by Sweetwater County authorities on a warrant for probation violation on an original criminal charge of Unlawful possession of methamphetamine.
Late last week, detectives assigned to the Sheriff’s Narcotics and Arrest Group (SNAAG), a specialized unit of county detectives dedicated to drug enforcement and fugitive apprehension cases, developed information and tracked Lee to a residence in Rock Springs.
Early Friday afternoon, SNAAG detectives, along with other Sheriff’s deputies and in coordination with Rock Springs Police Department, located and arrested Lee without incident during a routine traffic stop. During the traffic stop, investigators also recovered an undisclosed amount of methamphetamine and a loaded semi-automatic handgun.
In addition to the warrant, Lee is charged with Unlawful possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), 3rd or subsequent offense.
In Wyoming, Unlawful possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), 3rd or subsequent offense, is a felony that carries a maximum possible penalty of imprisonment for not more than five years, a $5,000 fine, or both. Under federal law, a drug user in possession of a firearm is a felony punishable by not more than ten years of imprisonment in a federal facility.
Lee remains in custody without bond at Sweetwater County Detention Center. The investigation is on-going.
Sheriff Lowell credited a cooperative effort between all involved agencies for this arrest and thanked the community for its continued support.
