GREEN RIVER– A fundraising event will be happening August 3 to help 12-year-old Green River boy Joseph Renfro with his scoliosis medical needs.
Joseph is requiring surgery in Philadelphia to correct his spine. Scoliosis is a curvature of the spine generally in the shape of a “C” or “S”.
Due to his advanced critical scoliosis, Philadelphia Shriners Hospital has offered Joseph a procedure called Vertebral Body Tethering (VBT). VBT is a minimally invasive surgery that allows for continued growth and mobility.
Joseph is an active swimmer with the Green River Middle School swim team, has played youth soccer, and is also an honor student.
“Joseph is well-known in the community, and no one can miss the boy with no arms,” Joseph’s mother Katherine Jetmore said. “He has been and will continue to be an inspiration to everyone he meets.”
The Surgery is Scheduled for August 27
Joseph and his family flew to Philadelphia in late June for a consultation visit to make sure he is a candidate for this procedure. The surgery is scheduled for August 27.
Joseph and his family are in desperate need for support for travel, food, and hotel rooms. Doctors have told Joseph’s family to plan on staying in Philadelphia for one month.
Due to the quickly approaching surgery date and having to already use their savings for the consultation visit, the family needs financial support.
They are requiring $55,000 for trips and other related expenses that will accrue over the next months. The family is hoping the community will lend a helping hand.
Joe Renfro’s Benefit Dinner, Raffle, and Silent Auction
The fundraising event will take place on August 3, at the Green River Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge at 88 N 2nd E St, from 4:30 to 7:30 pm.
The event will have door prizes, auction items, raffle prizes, and a $7 meal of hamburgers or hotdogs, chips, cake, and punch.
The family has been working with local businesses to get donations for the raffle and auction items.
Family friend Elsa Reyes is also accepting donations for Joseph at Trona Valley Federal Credit Union, in both Green River and Rock Springs.
The family would like to thank the following businesses for their generous donations for the raffle and auction:
First Choice Ford, Green River Rec Center, Burgers Inc., Earthwise Herbal, The Fish Bowl, Green River Pizza Hut, China Garden, Hampton Inn of Green River, O’Reilly Auto Parts, White Mountain Lumber, Window and Door Store, Rocky Mountain Power Sports, Skin City Ink & Steel, Napa Auto Parts, John Paras, Muley Fanatic Foundation, the Elk Bomb, Old Chicago, Bello Capelli Salon, and Morgan Valley Polaris Rock Springs.
