SWEETWATER COUNTY — Filing has ended for the school and college boards in Sweetwater County, with several races having developed for board positions.
According to filings from the Sweetwater County Clerk’s Office, there are now five people seeking election for two four-year terms with the Sweetwater County School District No. 1 Board of Trustees. Laurel Gandy, who was recently appointed to the board, is joined by April Eccker, Leo Gray, Danella Devries, and former Sweetwater County Board of County Commissioners candidate Walter Majko Jr. in that race.
Two more seats on the board, both of which are special two-year terms related to the unexpired terms originally belonging to Dr. Chad Franks and Dr. Cole Seppie has also generated a lot of interest. Anyssa Zancanella, Heather Hager, Meghan Jensen, Bernie Jensen, Kori Rossetti, and Layne Foxley are competing for those positions.
The district’s Wamsutter area seat does not have any candidates seeking election for that position.
In Sweetwater County School District No. 2, Daniel Flom and Tom Wilson are seeking reelection to the board while Kenny Shoning Jr. has also joined that race. There are three open positions on that board.
For Western Wyoming College’s Board of Trustees, there are two people filed for election to the two positions representing SCSD No. 1. Current Board President James Jessen has filed for reelection to the board and is joined by former longtime college administrator Jackie Freeze. There is one SCSD No. 2 position on Western’s board up for election as well, with Stacey Nelson being the sole candidate for that position. A race has developed for the sole at-large position on the college board, with Troy Archuleta and Lindsey Travis filed for that seat.
The General Election takes place Nov. 3.
