ROCK SPRINGS – Taking the step from high school athletics to college athletics can be a scary but exciting time. For Katelin Nielson, she will take that step as a member of the Western Wyoming Mustang Women’s Soccer team.

Nielson is from Leamington, Utah, and a 2015 graduate of Delta High School. She was an outstanding student while a student at DHS and WWCC Head Coach Jeff Atkinson anticipates the same from her as she arrives on campus this fall.  Nielson plans on studying Psychology at Western Wyoming.

Nielson and her DHS Lady Rabbit teammates had a couple of great season during the 2013 and 2014 years.  Both seasons the DHS team made it to the Utah 2A State Semifinals. Nielson was a first-team all-state player her junior year in 2013 and an honorable mention all-state player her senior year.  She missed a majority of her senior year with an injury.

The last defender or sweeper is where she played the majority of her soccer career.  However, she is open to play anywhere on the field to help out her team including goalkeeper.

“We envision Nielson as a vital member of the 2015 team using her aggressiveness and speed to benefit the Mustangs no matter where she may play on the field.” – Jeff Atkinson, WWCC Head Coach.

Speed is a big part of Katelin’s game she was part of an all state team in track for the medley and the 4×100 meter relay. In 2014, Nielson’s 4×400 team took state in the 2A,  During her senior year she and her DHS track teammates took state in the 4×100 race in 2A track.

“We know that Katelin is an excellent addition to the team and will set the tone for the Mustangs in training sessions and matches,” Atkinson said. “Western is lucky to include such a superb student and soccer player.”
