CHEYENNE – Governor Matt Mead’s office is encouraging awareness of civic responsibility among young people in Wyoming.
Wyoming Senate President Phil Nicholas will join Governor Mead’s Chief of Staff Kari Gray and UW men’s basketball coach Allen Edwards in welcoming entertainer Les “Pee Wee” Harrison to the UW Student Union Family Room on Thursday, September 8 at 2:00 p.m. Harrison played basketball for the Harlem All-Stars and is now an ambassador for the Responsibility Foundation. Governor Mead will be unable to attend the event due to a prior commitment. The event is free and open to the public.
The goal of the Responsibility Foundation is to inspire citizens, especially young people, to understand civic responsibility and participate in the election process.
“I encourage everyone eligible to exercise their right to vote,” said Governor Mead. “As parents, we need to talk with our children about the importance of voting. Events like this can create enthusiasm among young adults to get out and vote.”
The Responsibility Foundation is also partnering with Studies Weekly and the Every Kids Learn Foundation to sponsor a mock election on November 1. The participating K-12 students have voted for the winning presidential candidate in the past three elections.
