Governor of Wyoming, the nation’s leading energy exporting state to keynote 2013 Natural Gas for High Horsepower Summit

CHICAGO – Wyoming Governor Matt Mead will deliver a keynote address at the Natural Gas for High Horsepower (HHP) Summit 2013 on Tuesday, September 17 in Chicago. The HHP Summit is North America’s leading conference on the use of natural gas to fuel a broad spectrum of high horsepower operations—including rail, marine, E&P
operations, and mining.

As the nation’s third largest producer of natural gas and leading exporter of domestic energy, Wyoming has played an important role in the development of a robust natural gas transportation industry. The state’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) production plants have helped boost the modern LNG transportation industry, and the
state has served as the launchpad for several key LNG initiatives, including Burlington Northern’s first LNG locomotive project in the 1990s and Alpha Resources’ current LNG mine haul truck test project.

Governor Mead has worked with the energy industry, business community, environmental organizations
and landowners in Wyoming to develop a statewide energy strategy. Titled “Leading the Charge: Wyoming’s Action Plan for Energy, Environment and Economy,” the strategy identifies many specific initiatives to achieve
excellence in energy development, environmental stewardship, and economic growth. One initiative singles out LNG and high horsepower applications.

During his keynote address, Governor Mead will share his thoughts about the importance of developing a state energy strategy. He will highlight Wyoming’s leadership in energy development and discuss Wyoming’s
effort to expand opportunities and identify impediments to using more natural gas in high horsepower applications.

Born in Jackson, Wyoming and raised on his family’s ranch there, Governor Mead is proud of his home state’s role in powering the nation. “We produce more than 10 quadrillion BTUs of energy each year in Wyoming,” Governor Mead said. “These resources are vitally needed to fuel America’s economy. I view LNG as a means to add value to our resources and benefit the nation.
