SWEETWATER COUNTY — Green River and Rock Springs will return to the court this week with a pair of important Class 4A matchups, including two meetings involving teams ranked among the top in the state.
The No. 3-ranked Lady Wolves will play twice, beginning Thursday when No. 2 Evanston, who are 11-3 coming into the week, visits Green River for a conference match at 6 p.m.
Green River enters the matchup looking to build on its early-season experience against strong competition. The Lady Wolves went 3-5 at last weekend’s Border Wars tournament in Evanston, facing a schedule that included several ranked opponents and finishing with a loss to 3A Mountain View. Thursday’s match will be Green River’s first conference contest of the week and presents the Lady Wolves with an opportunity to make an early statement against Evanston.

Green River will then travel to Casper on Friday for a 6 p.m. matchup with No. 1 Kelly Walsh. The meeting will be another early test for the Lady Wolves against one of Class 4A’s top programs. Kelly Walsh was one of the teams Green River faced during the Border Wars tournament, but the Lady Wolves will now meet the undefeated Lady Trojans in a conference setting.
Rock Springs will also be on the road Friday, traveling to Cheyenne East for a 4 p.m. match. The Lady Tigers enter the week at 4-4 after going 4-4 at Border Wars. Rock Springs showed improvement as the tournament progressed, winning four matches overall and picking up two victories Saturday after splitting its four matches Friday.
The matchup with Cheyenne East will give Rock Springs another opportunity to test itself against a familiar opponent after the Lady Tigers opened the season with a three-set loss to East at the Cheyenne Invitational.
The teams will have several days to prepare for their respective matches, with Green River playing Thursday before both Sweetwater County programs return to action Friday.
Farson-Eden will also be in action twice this week. The Lady Pronghorns travel to Dubois on Friday for a 3:30 p.m. match before hosting Wind River on Saturday at 1 p.m. in an interclass matchup.
