GRHS Softball Overview

Senior Players: Shaylee Peterson, Kaylee Carson, Emma Delao and Mariahn Litz

COACH’S CORNER

Q: What are your initial thoughts about this upcoming season?

Aimone: “Well as a first year program, we are excited to be on the field to showcase our skills. I am optimistic and very excited for this season. We will have a good mix of upper and lower classmen that will contribute throughout the season.

We are looking at some big things from this year’s seniors. Shaylee Peterson, Kaylee Carson, Emma Delao and Mariahn Litz are our seniors this year. Unfortunately we were dealt a huge blow when Emma suffered a season ending injury during a snowmobile accident. She would have been one of our top fielders and hitters, but luckily we have a good group of athletes than can be moved around. Emma will still be a valuable part of this team and is also a team captain. We are also expecting big things from Shaylee Peterson. She is a versatile player and power hitter. We are looking at her to play the corners. She is a valuable leader and a team captain. Kaylee Carson brings a solid glove to the infield and is also a player that can be versatile. Mariahn Litz brings great speed to the team. She is another one that will see playing time in various positions.

Our starting shortstop will be junior Madison Yoak. She is a team captain and is a vacuum at short — very scrappy. We are looking at her to do some big things this season. To round out our junior class we have Natalie White. Natalie is a team player and will mostly see playing time in the outfield but she is also one that can play first base if needed.

We also have three sophomores on this year’s varsity team, Lani Jo Blaylock, Shelby Carson, and Makenzee Teuscher. Makenzee joins our team from Kemmerer High School. She will see most of her playing time in the outfield, but could also contribute in the infield as well. Lani Jo will see playing time at catcher and will be a utility player for us. She is one of the hardiest workers on the team. Shelby Carson finishes out the sophomore varsity class. Shelby has a heart and along with Lani one of the hardest workers on the team. She will be a utility player for us. She is very versatile and also willing to work play anywhere.

We have three freshman that will make immediate impact on varsity. Our starting pitcher Terryn Avery is only a freshman and she has some good speed coming in on her pitches. I am looking forward to seeing her grow as a player, very excited for her future. Gina Barajas will see playing time at catcher and on the infield. She is a well versed player. And to round out our freshman Adara Akin will also see playing time at second and outfield.”

Q: How do you compare against the competition in your conference?

Aimone: “It’s hard to say because without ever seeing any of these teams compete or coaches coach we have nothing to gage it off of, but I truly believe we can and will be competitive.

Q: Any other thoughts you’d like to add?

Aimone: “Overall, I am very excited for this season. We will be the best conditioned, hardest working team in the state of Wyoming. Our girls are ready and dedicated to our program and philosophy. They have bought into Wolves’ softball. They have been putting in the time and hard work this past week. I can’t wait to see how this season unfolds.”
