Helicopter services at MHSC will be changing on July 1

SWEETWATER COUNTY – A change to air service at Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County will be coming as it was announced that a new contract for helicopter services was signed with Air Med which will start on July 1.

Adam Hatch of Guardian asked the board why they were not allowed to bid on the helicopter services. Harch said they have provided solid services for the last three years and have been very active in the community.

“We are saddened by this,” Hatch said.

MHSC attorney George Lemich address the question. He said the hospital has entered into a long-term agreement with the University of Utah. They have also been utilizing the University of Utah fixed-wing airplane which is housed and located at the Rock Springs/Sweetwater County Airport for several years.

Lemich said the natural progression would be to move to the University of Utah’s Air Med because of the services and contract both MHSC and U of U have and share.

Lemich said MHSC has recognized Guardian and has been very pleased with the quality service Guardian has provided.
