6 teams are in, and 3 others are battling for the remaining 2 spots.
Week 8 games that matter in 1 way or another: Gillette at Cheyenne East, Rock Springs at Natrona, Kelly Walsh at Laramie, Cheyenne Central at Evanston
Week 8 games that don’t matter as far as the playoffs are concerned: Cheyenne South at Sheridan
Gillette: #1 seed. It doesn’t matter what happens in week 8 at Cheyenne East. The Camels have the head-to-head win vs. Sheridan.
Sheridan: #2 seed. It doesn’t matter what happens in week 8 vs. Cheyenne South. The Broncs have the head-to-win vs. whichever team ends up with the #3 seed.
Natrona beats Rock Springs, and East wins: Natrona (7-2) is the #3 seed, East (6-3) is the #4 seed and Rock Springs (5-4) is the #5 seed. RS would play at East in the first round of the playoffs.
Natrona beats Rock Springs and East loses: Natrona (7-2) is the #3 seed, while East and Rock Springs are tied at 5-4. East gets the #4 seed over RS who would be #5, due to head-to-head win. RS would play at East in the first round of the playoffs.
Rock Springs beats Natrona and East wins: This creates a 3-way tie with all 3 being 6-3. East would get the #3 seed, due to having a win vs. Gillette, whereas Rock Springs and Natrona don’t. RS would then get the #4 seed over Natrona who would be #5, due to head-to-head. Natrona and RS would rematch in the first round of the playoffs at RS.
Rock Springs beats Natrona and East loses: RS and Natrona would be tied at 6-3, but RS would get the #3 seed over Natrona who would be #4, due to head-to-head win. East (5-4) would be the #5 seed and would travel to Natrona in the first round of the playoffs.
Long story short: If Natrona beats RS, then the outcome of Gillette at East becomes irrelevant. RS would travel to East in the first round. If RS beats Natrona, then RS gets a first round home game. The only way East would be on the road in round 1, is if they lose and RS beats Natrona.
Kelly Walsh: In the playoffs. KW will be the #6 seed if they win at Laramie. If the Trojans lose, they could drop to #7 or #8, or stay at #6, depending on what happens between Central and Evanston.
Cheyenne Central at Evanston: The winner is in. Central is out with a loss. Evanston can get in with a loss, provided Laramie loses to Kelly Walsh.
Laramie: In with a win. The Plainsmen can make the playoffs with a loss, provided Central loses to Evanston.
Kelly Walsh beats Laramie, and Central beats Evanston: KW (4-5) would be the #6 seed, while Central (3-6) would be the #7 seed and travel to Sheridan in the first round of the playoffs. Evanston and Laramie would be tied at 2-7, but Evanston would get the #8 seed and a first round playoff trip to Gillette, due to head-to-head win. Laramie would be eliminated.
Kelly Walsh beats Laramie, and Evanston beats Central: KW (4-5) would be the #6 seed, while Evanston (3-6) would be the #7 seed and travel to Sheridan the first round of the playoffs. Laramie and Central would be tied at 2-7, but Laramie would get the #8 seed and a first round playoff trip to Gillette, due to head-to-head win. Central would be eliminated.
Laramie beats Kelly Walsh, and Central beats Evanston: Laramie, Kelly Walsh and Central would all be tied at 3-6. Laramie would get the #6 seed, due to having head-to-head wins vs. both KW and Central. KW would get the #7 seed over Central who would get the #8 seed, due to head-to-head win. KW would travel to Sheridan, while Central would go to Gillette. Evanston (2-7) would be eliminated.
Laramie beats Kelly Walsh and Evanston beats Central: Laramie, Kelly Walsh and Evanston would be tied at 3-6 and would have to do a 3-way coin flip for seeding. The coin flip would be done on Saturday, October 24th, during the state cross country meet at Sheridan. Central (2-7) would be eliminated.
Long story short: Central gave themselves a chance when they beat East, but combined losses to Laramie and Evanston, would trump it, and knock the Indians out. Laramie and Evanston can still get into the playoffs with a loss, depending on the outcome of the other game.
Cheyenne South: Eliminated.
3A East
Torrington, Douglas, Riverton and Buffalo are in the playoffs, although the exact order has not been determined.
Week 8 games that matter in 1 way or another: Douglas at Buffalo, Lander at Riverton
Week 8 games that don’t matter as far as the playoffs are concerned: Torrington at Rawlins
Torrington: #1 seed. It doesn’t matter what happens in week 8 at Rawlins. The TrailBlazers have head-to-head win vs. Douglas.
Douglas: #2 seed if they win at Buffalo.
Riverton: The only way Riverton can get the #2 seed, is to win vs. Lander, hope Buffalo beats Douglas, and then win the 3-way coin flip.
Buffalo: #2 seed with a win home vs. Douglas AND Riverton loses to Lander.
Douglas beats Buffalo, and Riverton wins: Douglas (4-1) would be the #2 seed. Riverton (3-2) would be the #3 seed and travel to the Jackson-Star Valley loser. Buffalo (2-3) would be the #4 seed and travel to the Jackson-Star Valley winner.
Douglas beats Buffalo, and Riverton loses: Douglas (4-1) would be the #2 seed. Riverton and Buffalo would be tied at 2-3, but Riverton would get the #3 seed, due to having the head-to-head win. Riverton would travel to the Jackson-Star Valley loser, and Buffalo would travel to the Jackson-Star Valley winner. If Rawlins beat Torrington, they would create a 3-way tie, but the Outlaws lost head-to-head vs. both Riverton and Buffalo.
Buffalo beats Douglas, and Riverton wins: All 3 would be tied at 3-2 and would have to do a 3-way coin flip for seeding. The coin flip would be done on Saturday, October 24th, during the state cross country meet at Sheridan.
Buffalo beats Douglas, and Riverton loses: Buffalo and Douglas would be tied at 3-2, but Buffalo would get the #2 seed, due to having head-to-head win. Douglas would be the #3 seed and travel to the Jackson-Star Valley loser. Riverton (2-3) would be #4 seed and travel to the Jackson-Star Valley winner.
Long story short: Riverton has the toughest road to get the #2 seed. If Douglas beats Buffalo, then the seedings are set and the result of Lander at Riverton game becomes irrelevant. It would be Douglas at #2, Riverton at #3 and Buffalo at #4.
Rawlins: Eliminated. The Outlaws lost head-to-head vs. both Riverton and Buffalo and can’t catch up to Torrington and Douglas in the standings.
Lander: Eliminated. The Tigers lose head-to-head vs. Rawlins, and can’t catch up to Torrington, Douglas, Riverton and Buffalo in the standings.
3A West
All 6 teams are still alive! Jackson and Star Valley are already assured of making the playoffs. All games in week 8 matter.
Jackson at Star Valley: Winner is the #1 seed and the loser is the #2 seed. As extra motivation, the loser of this game, might have to travel all the way to Torrington in the semi-finals, depending on what happens in the first round of the playoffs.
Green River: Can secure the #3 seed with a win at Worland.
Worland: In AND gets the #3 seed with a win home vs. GR, but also needs Powell to lose at Cody. Out with a loss AND if Powell beats Cody.
Powell: In with a win, provided Green River beats Worland.
Cody: Out with a loss home vs. Powell, OR if Worland beats Green River, but not guaranteed to make the playoffs with a win either. The Broncs would also need Green River to beat Worland to force the 3-way tie-breaker play-in game.
3-way Tie-Breaker Play-In Game: There are 4 possible outcomes based on the Green River-Worland result and the Powell-Cody result. 2 of the 4 outcomes would mean the 3-way tie-breaker play-in game would take effect on Tuesday, October 27th. Powell and Worland have a 50-50 chance of being stuck in the 3-way tie-breaker play-in game. If the game happens, it would either be Green River-Worland-Powell (2 of the 3 make the playoffs), or it would be Powell-Worland-Cody (1 of the 3 make the playoffs). If the game happens, the survivor(s) would play their first round playoff game on Saturday, October 31st.
Green River beats Worland, and Powell beats Cody: GR (3-2) would be the #3 seed, while Powell (2-3) would be the #4 seed and would travel to Torrington in the first round of the playoffs. Worland (1-4) and Cody (0-5) would be eliminated.
Green River beats Worland and Cody beats Powell: GR (3-2) would be the #3 seed. Powell, Worland and Cody would all be tied at 1-4, and have to play the 3-way tie-breaker play-in game on Tuesday, October 27th at a neutral site. 1 of the 3 teams make the playoffs.
Worland beats Green River and Powell beats Cody: Cody (0-5) would be eliminated and the other 3 teams would be tied at 2-3 and would have to play the 3-way tie-breaker play-in game on Tuesday, October 27th at a neutral site. 2 of the 3 teams make the playoffs.
Worland beats Green River and Cody beats Powell: Worland and Green River would be tied at 2-3, but Worland would get the #3 seed over Green River would be #4, due to head-to-head win. GR would then go to Torrington for the first round of the playoffs. Cody (1-4) and Powell (1-4) would be eliminated.
Long story short: If the 3-way tie-breaker play-in game happens, then Torrington’s first round home playoff game will be played on Saturday, October 31st.
2A East
3 teams are already in the playoffs, while 2 others will battle for the final spot.
The #1 seed will host the Lyman-Mountain View loser.
The #2 seed will host the Lyman-Mountain View winner.
The #3 seed will travel to the Lovell-Greybull loser.
The #4 seed will travel to the Lovell-Greybull winner.
Week 8 games that matter in 1 way or another: Big Horn at Wheatland, and Thermopolis at Newcastle
Week 8 games that don’t matter as far as the playoffs are concerned: Kemmerer at Glenrock, and Burns at Wright
Wheatland: #1 seed with a win home vs. Big Horn. Can still get the #1 seed with a loss, provided they win the 3-way coin flip.
Glenrock: Because there are an odd number teams in the conference, that means one team has to finish conference play before all the other teams finish. Glenrock got that honor. Their week 8 game home vs. Kemmerer in a non-conference game, thus the outcome of that game on the playoff picture is irrelevant. Glenrock is #2 seed if Wheatland beats Big Horn. The Herders could get the #1 seed with Big Horn wins, and the 3-way coin flip goes in their favor.
Big Horn: The only way BH can get the #1 seed is to beat Wheatland, and then win the 3-way coin flip. The Rams would be the #3 seed with a loss at Wheatland.
Thermopolis at Newcastle: Winner is in the playoffs, will be the #4 seed, and will travel to the Lovell-Greybull winner. The loser is eliminated.
Burns and Wright: Both teams have been eliminated. Their week 8 game vs. each other is to determine which team will finish 1-7 and which team will finish 0-8.
2A West
Greybull, Lovell, Mountain View and Lyman are in the playoffs, although the exact seeding is still to be determined.
Week 8 games that matter in 1 way or another: Lovell at Greybull and Lyman at Mountain View
Week 8 games that don’t matter as far as the playoffs are concerned: Kemmerer at Glenrock, and Pinedale at Big Piney
Lovell at Greybull: Winner is the #1 seed and will host the Thermopolis-Newcastle winner. Loser is the #2 seed.
Lyman at Mountain View: Winner is the #3 seed. Loser is the #4 seed.
Pinedale, Big Piney and Kemmerer: Eliminated.
1A East
This is one that’s the most confusing because there is the possibility of a 4-way tie for first.
All 3 games matter. The games are Moorcroft at Lingle-Ft. Laramie, Southeast at Upton-Sundance, and Tongue River at Pine Bluffs.
Lingle-Ft. Laramie: Can get #1 seed with a win home vs. Moorcroft. Can also get the #1 seed with a loss, provided Southeast beats Upton-Sundance. The Doggers have head-to-head tie-breaker vs. Upton-Sundance. Assured of no worse than the #2 seed if Tongue River loses.
Upton-Sundance: Assured of no worse than the #2 seed with a win home vs. Southeast. Can get #1 seed with a win home vs. Southeast AND if Lingle-Ft. Laramie loses home vs. Moorcroft.
Tongue River: In with a win. Can get the #2 seed with win combined with an Upton-Sundance win over Southeast AND a Moorcroft win vs. Lingle-Ft. Laramie. The Eagles would be in a bad spot if they lose at Pine Bluffs. TR would be eliminated with a loss AND if Southeast beats Upton-Sundance. TR would be stuck in the 3-way play-in game with a loss AND if Upton-Sundance beats Southeast.
Southeast: In with a win. Can get the #2 seed with a win AND if Pine Bluffs beats Tongue River (The Moorcroft-Lingle-Ft. Laramie game would be irrelevant). Also in with a loss, provided TR beats Pine Bluffs. The worst case scenario for the Cyclones would be a loss combined with a PB win, which would put them in the 3-way tie-breaker play in game.
Pine Bluffs: Must win. No help will come for the Hornets if they lose. Can get the #4 seed with a win AND if Southeast beats Upton-Sundance. Would be in the 3-way tie-breaker play-in game with a win AND Upton-Sundance beats Southeast. In either scenario, the result of the Moorcroft-Lingle-Ft. Laramie game is irrelevant to the Hornets.
Lusk: The Tigers have week 8 off, but they can’t make the playoffs, so their season is over. Their fate was sealed when they lost at Southeast, combined with Tongue River’s win home vs. Lingle-Ft. Laramie.
Moorcroft: Eliminated.
3-Way Tie-Breaker Play-In Game: If it happens, it would be a situation were 2 teams would survive and make the playoffs, while the other team would be eliminated.
Lingle- Ft. Laramie beats Moorcroft, Upton-Sundance beats Southeast and Tongue River beats Pine Bluffs: Lingle-Ft. Laramie and Upton-Sundance would be tied at 5-1, but Lingle-Ft. Laramie would get the #1 seed over Upton-Sundance who would be the #2 seed, due to head-to-head win. Tongue River (4-2) would be the #3 seed and Southeast (3-3) would be the #4 seed. Pine Bluffs (2-4) would be eliminated.
Lingle-Ft. Laramie beats Moorcroft, Upton-Sundance beats Southeast and Pine Bluffs beats Tongue River: Lingle-Ft. Laramie and Upton-Sundance would be tied at 5-1, but Lingle-Ft. Laramie would get the #1 seed over Upton-Sundance who would be the #2 seed, due to head-to-head win. Tongue River, Southeast and Pine Bluffs would be tied at 3-3 and would have to play the 3-way tie-breaker play-in game on Tuesday, October 27th at a neutral site. 2 of the 3 teams make the playoffs.
Lingle-Ft. Laramie beats Moorcroft, Southeast beats Upton-Sundance and Tongue River beats Pine Bluffs: Lingle-Ft. Laramie (5-1) gets the #1 seed. Upton-Sundance, Tongue River and Southeast would all be tied at 4-2 and would have to do a 3-way coin-flip to determine seeding. The coin flip would be done on Saturday, October 24th, during the state cross country meet at Sheridan. Pine Bluffs (2-4) would be eliminated.
Lingle-Ft. Laramie beats Moorcroft, Southeast beats Upton-Sundance and Pine Bluffs beats Tongue River: Lingle-Ft. Laramie (5-1) gets the #1 seed. Southeast and Upton-Sundance would be tied at 4-2, but Southeast would get the #2 seed over Upton-Sundance, who would be the #3 seed, due to head-to-head win. Pine Bluffs and Tongue River would be tied at 3-3, but PB would get the #4 seed over TR due to head-to-head win. TR would be eliminated.
Moorcroft beats Lingle-Ft. Laramie, Upton-Sundance beats Southeast, and Tongue River beats Pine Bluffs: Upton-Sundance (5-1) gets the #1 seed. Tongue River and Lingle-Ft. Laramie would be tied at 4-2, but TR would get the #2 seed over Lingle-Ft. Laramie, who would be the #3 seed, due to head-to-head win. Southeast (3-3) would be the #4 seed. Pine Bluffs (2-4) would be eliminated.
Moorcroft beats Lingle-Ft. Laramie, Upton-Sundance beats Southeast, and Pine Bluffs beats Tongue River: Upton-Sundance (5-1) gets the #1 seed. Lingle-Ft. Laramie (4-2) gets the #2 seed. Tongue River, Southeast and Pine Bluffs would be tied at 3-3 and would have to play the 3-way tie-breaker play-in game on Tuesday, October 27th at a neutral site. 2 of the 3 teams make the playoffs.
Moorcroft beats Lingle-Ft. Laramie, Southeast beats Upton-Sundance, and Tongue River beats Pine Bluffs: There would be a 4-way tie for first through 4th, between Lingle-Ft. Laramie, Southeast, Upton-Sundance and Tongue River who would all be 4-2. Using record vs. highest team in the conference not involved in the tie (or the next highest team), Tongue River would lose the 4-way and drop to the #4 seed, because the Eagles have a loss vs. Lusk, whereas Lingle-Ft. Laramie, Southeast and Upton-Sundance don’t. Reverting back to 3-way tie-breaker rules, Lingle-Ft. Laramie would get the #1 seed over Southeast and Upton-Sundance, because Lingle-Ft. Laramie has head-to-head wins vs. BOTH Southeast and Upton-Sundance. Southeast would then get the #2 seed over Upton-Sundance who would be the #3 seed, due to head-to-head win. Pine Bluffs (2-4) would be eliminated.
Moorcroft beats Lingle-Ft. Laramie, Southeast beats Upton-Sundance, and Pine Bluffs beats Tongue River: Lingle-Ft. Laramie, Southeast and Upton-Sundance would all be tied at 4-2. Upton-Sundance would lose the 3-way and drop to the #3 seed, because U-S lost to BOTH Lingle-Ft. Laramie and Southeast. Lingle-Ft. Laramie would then get the #1 seed over Southeast would then be the #2 seed, due to head-to-head win. Pine Bluffs and Tongue River would be tied at 3-3, but PB would get the #4 seed over TR, due to head-to-head win. TR would be eliminated.
1A West
Shoshoni, Riverside, Cokeville, and Rocky Mountain are in the playoffs, although the exact seeding is still to be determined. R.M. still has to take their forfeit win vs. Burlington.
Week 8 games that matter in 1 way or another: Shoshoni at Riverside, Wind River at Cokeville
Week 8 games that don’t matter as far as the playoffs are concerned: Wyoming Indian at Saratoga
Shoshoni at Riverside: Winner is the #1 seed. Shoshoni would drop to #2 with a loss. Riverside is not guaranteed the #2 seed with a loss.
Shoshoni beats Riverside, and Cokeville wins: Shoshoni is the #1 seed. Riverside, Cokeville and Rocky Mountain would be in a 3-way tie at 5-2, and would have to do a 3-way coin-flip to determine seeding. The coin flip would be done on Saturday, October 24th, during the state cross country meet at Sheridan.
Shoshoni beats Riverside and Cokeville loses: Rocky Mountain and Riverside would be tied at 5-2, but R.M. would get the #2 seed over Riverside who would be #3, due to head-to-head win. Cokeville (4-3) would get the #4 seed.
Riverside beats Shoshoni and Cokeville wins: Riverside and Shoshoni would be tied at 6-1, but Riverside would get the #1 seed over Shoshoni who would be #2, due to head-to-head win. Cokeville and Rocky Mountain would be tied at 5-2, but Cokeville would get the #3 seed over R.M. who would be #4, due to head-to-head win.
Riverside beats Shoshoni and Cokeville loses: Riverside and Shoshoni would be tied at 6-1, but Riverside would get the #1 seed over Shoshoni who would be #2, due to head-to-head win. Rocky Mountain (5-2) would get the #3 seed and Cokeville (4-3) would get the #4 seed.
Long story short: Rocky Mountain’s win over Riverside gave the Grizzlies and Cokeville a chance to swipe the #2 seed, and with it, a first round home playoff game. R.M. and Cokeville both need Shoshoni to beat Riverside. The only way Cokeville can get the #2 seed is to beat Wind River, hope Shoshoni beats Riverside, and then hope the coins flip in their favor.
6-Man East
Three playoff spots are filled, but the exact order has not been determined. As for the final spot, 2 teams will battle for it, in week 8.
Week 8 games that matter in 1 way or another: H.E.M. at Kaycee, Rock River at Hulett (Saturday), and Midwest at Normative Services
Week 8 games that don’t matter as far as the playoffs are concerned: Meeteetse at Guernsey-Sunrise
The #1 seed will host Dubois.
The #2 seed will host the Little Snake River/Farson-Eden loser.
The #3 seed will travel to the Little Snake River/Farson-Eden winner.
The #4 seed will travel to Meeteetse.
Kaycee: Can secure the #1 seed with a win home vs. H.E.M. The Buckaroos have head-to-head tie-breaker vs. Hulett.
Hulett: Assured of no worse than the #2 seed. Can get the #1 seed with a win AND a Kaycee loss.
Guernsey-Sunrise: In the playoffs, but they are finished with the conference portion of their schedule. Their week 8 home game vs. Meeteetse is a non-conference game, and will have no impact on the playoff picture. The Vikings have to sit and wait to see what happens with the other 3 games in the East. Can’t get the #1 seed. The Vikings can avoid having to play Meeteetse 2 weeks in a row, if Midwest can beat Normative Services.
Midwest at Normative Services: Winner is in the playoffs, while the loser misses out. Can’t get the #1 seed.
Kaycee wins, Hulett wins, NSI beats Midwest: Kaycee and Hulett would be tied at 5-1, but Kaycee would get the #1 seed over Hulett who would be the #2 seed, due to head-to-head win. Normative Services and Guernsey-Sunrise would be tied at 4-2, but NSI would get the #3 seed over G-S, who would be the #4 seed, due to head-to-head win. Midwest (2-4) would be eliminated.
Kaycee wins, Hulett wins, Midwest beats NSI: Kaycee and Hulett would be tied at 5-1, but Kaycee would get the #1 seed over Hulett who would be the #2 seed, due to head-to-head win. Guernsey-Sunrise (4-2) would be the #3 seed. Midwest and NSI would be tied at 3-3, but Midwest would get the #4 seed, due to head-to-head win. NSI would be eliminated.
Kaycee wins, Hulett loses, NSI beats Midwest: Kaycee (5-1) would be the #1 seed. Hulett, NSI and Guernsey-Sunrise would all be tied at 4-2, but Hulett would get the #2 seed, because they beat both NSI and G-S. NSI would then get the #3 seed over G-S who would be the #4 seed, due to head-to-head win. Midwest (2-4) would be eliminated.
Kaycee wins, Hulett loses, Midwest beats NSI: Kaycee (5-1) would be the #1 seed. Hulett and Guernsey-Sunrise would be tied at 4-2, but Hulett would get the #2 seed over G-S who would be #3, due to head-to-head win. Midwest and NSI would be tied at 3-3, but Midwest would get the #4 seed, due to head-to-head win. NSI would be eliminated.
Kaycee loses, Hulett wins, NSI beats Midwest: Hulett (5-1) would be the #1 seed. Kaycee, Normative Services and Guernsey-Sunrise would be in a 3-way tie at 4-2. Checking record vs. highest team in the conference not involved in the tie (or the next highest, next highest, etc…), Kaycee would win the 3-way and the #2 seed, because the Buckaroos have a win vs. Hulett, whereas NSI and G-S don’t. NSI would then get the #3 seed over G-S who would be #4, due to head-to-head win. Midwest (2-4) would be eliminated.
Kaycee loses, Hulett wins, Midwest beat NSI: Hulett (5-1) would be the #1 seed. Guernsey-Sunrise and Kaycee would be tied at 4-2, but G-S would get the #2 seed over Kaycee who would be the #3 seed, due to head-to-head win. Midwest and NSI would be tied at 3-3, but Midwest would get the #4 seed, due to head-to-head win. NSI would be eliminated.
Kaycee loses, Hulett loses, NSI beats Midwest: This would create a 4-way tie between Hulett, NSI, Guernsey-Sunrise and Kaycee who would all be 4-2. Checking record vs. highest team in the conference not involved in the tie (or the next highest, next highest, etc…) Kaycee would lose the 4-way tie and drop the #4 seed, because the Buckaroos would have a loss vs. H.E.M., whereas Hulett, NSI and G-S don’t. Hulett would then get the #1 seed over NSI and G-S, because the Red Devils have head-to-head wins vs. both NSI and G-S. NSI would then get the #2 seed over G-S who would drop to #3, due to head-to-head win. Midwest (2-4) would be eliminated.
