SWEETWATER COUNTY — The United States National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning for Wednesday, October 14, and a gusty wind warning for today.
According to a special weather statement from the NWS, gusty winds are likely again today in Sweetwater and Lincoln counties. West to Southwest winds could reach 20-25 mph and gusts could reach 40-45 mph.
Under the high wind warning from the NWS, West winds are expected to be 25-40 mph with gusts reaching up to 60 mph.
The high wind warning is for the Green Mountains, Rattlesnake Range, National County lower elevations, South Lincoln County, Rock Springs, Green River, Flaming Gorge, and East Sweetwater County. The warning is in effect from 9 am to 7 pm Wednesday, October 14.
Possible impacts could be trees and power lines being blown down. Widespread power outages are also possible, according to the NWS. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.
The NWS is recommending residents to avoid being outside in forested areas, around trees, and branches. If possible, remain in the lower levels of your home during the windstorm, and avoid windows. Use caution when driving.
