ROCK SPRINGS – Irene Pauline Mrak Shiflar was born in Glencoe, Ohio on October 5, 1922. The family relocated to Rock Springs Wyoming when she was seven so that her father Urban could work in the coal mines. Irene attended schools in Rock Springs, Wyoming.
She married Andrew Jack Shiflar on March 13, 1943. Irene was a very talented lady.
She loved spending time doing her “fancy work” from crocheting, tole painting, knitting, sewing, beautiful ceramic work, to gardening and cooking wonderful treats from the old country for her entire family. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and later having visits from her great-grandchildren.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents Mary and Urban Mrak, her brothers Vernon A. Mrak and Urban Mrak, Jr. , her son Paul Dean Shiflar, grandson Paul Andrew Shiflar, and her husband Andrew Shiflar. Irene is survived by son Danny Shiflar and his son Wes Shiflar of Rock Springs, Wyoming; daughter Mary Ann Grubb of Rock Springs, Wyoming and her children Len (Misty) Hay of Farson, Wyoming, Amy DeClue and husband Corey of Pinedale, Wyoming, daughter Carol Stevens and her children Kory and Colter Harmon of Twin Falls, Idaho and daughter Joyce Hughes and her children Tawny and Hanna Hughes.
Irene is also survived by ten grandchildren.
Following cremation, memorial services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Friday, August 1, 2014 at the Vase Funeral Chapel, 154 Elk Street, Rock Springs, Wyoming. Friends may call at the Vase Chapel one hour prior to services.
