GREEN RIVER — After six years of service at the Golden Hour Senior Center (GHSC), Executive Director Jackie Grubb is saying goodbye to pursue a new career.

Grubb’s last day was Friday, February 4, and she’s looking forward to starting a new job on Monday at Western Wyoming Community College.

Grubb, who wasn’t even looking for a new job, just so happened to see an ad from Western for a grant and accounting technician on SweetwaterNOW when she was making sure an ad for a GHSC lead cook had been posted to the website.

“I really wasn’t looking to leave the senior center,” Grubb said.

She later clicked on Western’s grant and accounting technician’s ad just to see what they were looking for and what the requirements were. As she looked at the ad, she realized she met a lot of the requirements.

“It really just snowballed from there,” Grubb said. “I really felt it would be a good step for my career.”

While working for the senior center, Grubb had to apply for many grants, which is something she really enjoyed. Grubb said she applied for the job at Western and when she found out she got it, she immediately told the GHSC Board members so they could start the process of hiring a new director.

Not only will Grubb miss all of the employees she worked with, but the senior citizens.

“I’m going to miss the seniors the most. I’ve made good relationships with them,” Grubb said.

Grubb’s ready to try something different and felt it was a good time to pursue this opportunity. Grubb hopes the center will have some good candidates apply for her vacant position.

The GHSC’s board has a hiring committee that will review all of the applications and then make a recommendation to the board. The board will then make a final decision and hire a new director.
