JACKSON HOLE — Local emergency services and AmeriGas technicians will be working today (11/21) on safely removing the gas from compromised tanks at the AmeriGas facility. This process involves a technique called “flaring”, where technicians will burn off the remaining gas in the tanks in order to render them safe. The public can expect to see flames and smoke in the area of AmeriGas and should not be concerned unless you receive further information from local officials. This flaring process may take an upwards of 5 hours to safely dispose of the gas.
There are no evacuation orders or shelter-in-place advisories in place for the flaring operation, but the public is asked to stay clear of this area. Getting too close to the flaring operation can be extremely dangerous. For this reason, High School Rd from S Highway 89 to Gregory Ln is closed, as well as the bike path behind Smith’s/AmeriGas. Schools, businesses, and residences in the area are safe and do not need to evacuate or shelter in place at this time. Please do not call 9-1-1 to report the flaring, and only use 9-1-1 if you have an emergency.
