Jim Luckey named May Volunteer of the Month

ROCK SPRINGS – The Organization Committee of the Rock Springs Main Street/URA is pleased to announce their May Volunteer of the Month – Jim Luckey.

Jim passed away on May 21, 2015 at the age of 75 years after a short illness. He moved to Rock Springs in 1973, from Kellogg, Iowa, after coming to Wyoming on a hunting trip with his friend, Mike Walker. He fell in love with the ruggedness of the area and moved with his wife, Edith, his two daughters, Connie Jo and Linda to Rock Springs. He was a foreman for Stauffer/OCI Chemical company and retired in 1993.

Jim also owned a motorcycle repair business called J & B Cycle. He loved motorcycles, especially Harley’s, and love to hunt and fish. He was a mentor to many young men, teaching them to hunt and fish and about motorcycles and guns. Jim was a true “rut nut” and belonged to the Oregon California Trails Association, The Lincoln Highway Association, and the Sweetwater County Historical Society. He was an avid reader and especially liked western books

Edith Luckey passed away in 2003 and in 2007, he married the former Carolyn Moree of Fort Collins, Colorado.

Jim was an active member of the Rock Springs Main Street/URA over the years. He worked on many floats for the Christmas parade and also volunteered for the Rods & Rails Car Show. The committee felt is appropriate to honor Jim for his years of service, posthumously.
