
ROCK SPRINGS — Jose Lorenzo Valdez, 76, of Rock Springs, Wyoming passed away at his home on Wednesday, September 10, 2014. A longtime resident of Rock Springs, Wyoming and former resident of Point of Rocks, Mr. Valdez passed away following a lengthy illness.
Mr. Valdez was born in Las Vegas, New Mexico on August 9, 1938, the son of Jose Bartolo Valdez and Maria Nativida Nolan.
He married Frances Evila Lovato in Cheyenne, Wyoming on November 29, 1975.
Mr. Valdez worked as a section foreman for the Union Pacific Railroad for fifteen years until his retirement in 1990.
He was a member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Community.
His interests included playing his guitar and accordian, singing country and western songs and was a very good mechanic.
Survivors include his wife Frances Evila Valdez of Rock Springs, Wyoming; mother Maria Nativida Henderson of Las Vegas, New Mexico; three sons Anthony Lawrence Valdez of Las Vegas, Nevada, Albert Ambrose Valdez of Las Vegas, Nevada and Joseph John Valdez of Rock Springs, Wyoming; three daughters Darlene Linda Gonzales of Las Vegas, Nevada, Melissa Olivia Haley of St. George, Utah and Kathy Erica Zuno of St. George, Utah; three brothers Vincent Valdez of Loveland, Colorado, Luke Valdez of Mora, New Mexico and Frank Valdez of Las Vegas, Nevada and two sisters Virginia Chilton of Kendrick, Idaho and Jennifer Martinez of Laramie, Wyoming; nineteen grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; two nieces and one nephew.
He was preceded in death by his father and one brother Gary Atencio.
Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Mass will be conducted at 10:00 A.M., Friday, September 12, 2014 at the Saints Cyril Methodius Catholic Church, 633 Bridger Avenue in Rock Springs, Wyoming. A Vigil Service with Rosay will be conducted at 6:00 P.M.,Thursday September 11, 2014 at the church. Friends may call on Thursday from 4:00 P.M. until time of Rosary and again on Friday one hour prior to services.
