Kearns Utah man killed in two vehicle accident near Lyman

LYMAN – Matthew D. Mechling, 38 of Kearns Utah, was killed in a Thursday night accident on Interstate 80 seven miles west of Lyman.

According to the Wyoming Highway Patrol, Weather conditions at the time of the crash were blowing snow and road conditions were icy and snow packed.

Mechling was westbound on Interstate 80 in the driving lane when he lost control of his vehicle, a 2008 Chevrolet K1500.

His vehicle went into a broadside slide going across the passing lane, then crossing the median and going into the eastbound lanes of travel. Timothy A. Holloway, 44 of Billings Montana was eastbound in his tractor trailer combination and attempted to avoid the impending collision by steering to the right hand side of the roadway and onto the emergency lane. Mechling’s vehicle however, collided head-on into Holloway’s tractor trailer combination.

Both drivers were transported to Evanston Regional Hospital where Mechling was declared dead.

Speed too fast for the existing conditions are a contributing factor in this fatal crash.
