JACKSON – After a setback to Green River last time out, the Rock Springs Lady Tigers looked to grab momentum heading into an important weekend in Casper. In a make-up game in Jackson, Ky Buell and Maggie Justinak combined for 53 on the night as the Lady Tigers earned the win, 73-35.
The Rock Springs Lady Tigers used tough defense to get off to a quick start on Tuesday. Ky Buell found the range early with seven, first-quarter points. Emily Quigly and Justinak added points and Kyla Henry scored before the end of the quarter as Rock Springs took a 15-5 lead after one.
The Lady Broncs opened the second quarter with the first four. Quigly ended the run with a free throw but Jackson continued to march forward cutting the lead to three, 16-13. Justinak went on the attack hitting a three and following it with a drive for two to quickly extend the lead back to eight, 21-13. Quigly and Justinak matched Lady Broncs buckets and with two minutes left in the quarter, Buell extended the lead back to ten, 27-17. A Jackson free throw was the only point either team could score in the final two minutes as Rock Springs took a 27-18 lead at the break.
Buell matched Jackson early to start the third with five quick points. Selena Cudney scored her first two of the game and Justinak continued to add to the lead as Rock Springs went up 16 midway through the third. Justinak scored six and Sarye Thomas added a bucket in the final four minutes as the Lady Tigers took a 46-29 lead into the final quarter.
Jackson opened the fourth with the first field goal but Quigly quickly answered. After another Lady Bronc bucket, Cudney, Henry and two threes by Buell put the Tiger up 24, 57-33. After forcing another three, Justinak lined up another three pointer to continue to add to the lead. Buell converted an old fashion three-point play to give the ladies of Rock Springs a 30-point advantage, 63-33. Justinak, Buell and Henry all added points in the final three minutes as the Lady Tigers put another one in the win column with a 73-35 win. Buell led the way with 29 points while Justinak added 24 on the night.
