Lady Tigers Finish Season With a 4A Consolation Title

CASPER – It was a low-scoring, defensive battle Saturday morning as the Rock Springs Lady Tigers were able to close out the season with a win over Cheyenne Central, 32-27, to take the 4A consolation championship.

Ky Buell led the way with 11 points and five rebounds including two key free throws down the stretch. Also adding two big free throws with ten seconds left was Sarye Thomas who finished with six points.

Maggie Justinak and Ky Buell helped give the Lady Tigers a 9-5 lead in a low-scoring first half.  The two teams traded buckets for the remainder of the half with Selena Cudney and Emily Quigley adding points. Justinak just missed a three at the buzzer as Rock Springs led at the break, 14-10.

Thomas hit a three to get things underway in the second half but the Lady Indians fought back to cut the lead back to three. Buell found Quigley as the ladies jumped back up five 19-14. Both team’s offensive struggles continued for the next several minutes. Taylor Jenkins and Buell were able to break the scoreless streak as the Lady Tigers took a 23-16 lead at the end of three.

Central came out firing in the final quarter and a 7-2 run to cut the Lady Tigers lead to two, 25-23. Buell hit two key free throws with a minute left to put Rock Springs back up four. Justinak added a free throw which was followed by two free throws on the other end by Central as the Lady Tigers maintained a three-point lead with 34 seconds. Thomas hit two free throws at the end to give Rock Springs the consolation championship, 32-27.

The Lady Tigers conclude the season with 18 wins, a 4A West Regional title and a 4A Consolation Championship.
