GREEN RIVER – After going 2-0 on Friday, the Lady Wolves lost a heartbreaker to Cody in a shootout in the semifinals Saturday morning.
Green River opened play strong on a cold and wet field Saturday morning. The Lady Wolves struck first halfway through the first half. Taylor Stoeger was able to outrun the Cody defense and blasted the ball in to give the ladies the 1-0 lead. Despite both teams having opportunities, that was how the first half ended.
Cody responded in the second half as the evened the game at one. Neither team was able to add to the scoreboard as it went to a shootout to decide a winner. Both teams scored to open the shootout. A stop by Green River goalie Holly Hunt and a goal by Chezney Mamalis had Green River up 2-1. Cody scored the next two while the Green River shooters were denied as the Lady Wolves fell in the end.
The Lady Wolves were scheduled to take on Worland for third and fourth place. Due to the weather, Worland headed out early giving Green River the forfeit win and third place for the tournament.
