CHEYENNE —An investigation is still ongoing to determine a possible cause for a fatal crash west of Cheyenne, according to the Wyoming Highway Patrol (WHP).
On May 8, 2021, a fatal crash occurred around milepost 348 on Interstate 80 west of Cheyenne. At 4 p.m., WHP troopers were notified of a one-vehicle rollover.
A 2005 Chevrolet Malibu was headed west on Interstate 80 when the driver failed to negotiate a slight curve to the right. The vehicle exited the left side of the roadway before the driver corrected back to the right, before overcorrecting back to the left. The car left the road a second time and overturned.
The Chevrolet driver has been identified as 89-year-old Laramie, Wyoming, resident Donald Corely. Corely was not wearing a seatbelt and succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the crash.
Troopers are still investigating the crash to determine a possible contributing factor.
This is the 30th fatality on Wyoming’s roadways in 2021 compared to 26 in 2020, 60 in 2019, and 30 in 2018 to date.
