SWEETWATER COUNTY — Summer is winding down, but Sweetwater County still has a full slate of events before school starts in a few weeks, including pool parties, concerts, art competitions and the annual River Festival.
Rock Springs
Bunning Park will host a screening of “How to Train Your Dragon” at 8:30 p.m. Aug. 14 as part of the city’s Movie in the Park series.
Dogs get their turn at Blairtown Pool during the Dog Day Splash on Aug. 9. Large breeds can swim from noon to 1 p.m., followed by small breeds from 1 to 2 p.m.
The Concert in the Park series continues every Wednesday in August at Bunning Park at 7 p.m. Brandi and Sweetwater perform Aug. 12, followed by Noah Valentine on Aug. 19 and Jim Wilkinson closing out the series Aug. 26.
The Brown Bag concert series also runs every Tuesday from noon to 1:30 p.m., at Bank Court. Dave Pedri and EIO Band performs Aug. 11, 2026, Better Days with Dano K on Aug. 18 and The Rough and Tumble caps of the series on Aug. 25.
The Main Street Market runs every Thursday in Bunning Park from 4 to 7 p.m.
Green River
The Green River Recreation Center will set up an inflatable pool obstacle course Aug. 8 from noon to 2 p.m.
The River Festival takes over Expedition Island Aug. 14 from 4 to 10 p.m. and Aug. 15 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. A Cajun shrimp boil kicks off the festival Aug. 14, with social hour at 5 p.m. and dinner served at 6 p.m. Prices range from $20 for a “Canoe” portion of a half-pound of shrimp with potatoes, corn, sausage and soda, to $30 for a “Boat” portion with a full pound of shrimp and the same fixings, to $55 for two “Boats.” To-go boxes will also be available.
Art on the Green returns during the River Festival Aug. 14 and 15 at Expedition Island Pavilion. The competition begins at 11 a.m. Friday, and artists have 24 hours to complete their work for a chance at cash prizes.
The Run with the Horses marathon, half marathon, 10K and 5K start at 7 a.m. Aug. 15, and the Great Duck Race follows at noon.
The Green River Farmers Market runs every Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. on Uinta Drive.
