Larry Burke, 83, died peacefully at his home on June 12, 2022, following a gallant battle with cancer. Larry was born in Avoca, Iowa, on August 14, 1938, to J. Kenneth Burke and Lillian Kuhl Burke.
He graduated from Powell, Wyoming, high school prior to joining the United States Marine Corps where he served until honorably discharged in 1962. He worked in the oil field most of his life until retirement in 2005.
He married Nedra May Lamb on April 24, 1974, and together they lived, loved, and worked in Glenrock, Rock Springs, and Evanston, Wyoming, until his passing.
Larry was well-known in the Wyoming oilfields and had many friends and associates in the petroleum industry. He was active in the community and once served as the Exhalted Ruler of the Evanston chapter of B.P.O.E. Elks. Larry was an avid hunter and gun collector as well as a passionate Harley-Davidson owner. He and his wife, Nedra, rode thousands of “Harley” miles across the West. He loved spending time with his family and his dogs, Annie and Sarah.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, his son David, step-daughter, Sharon “Sherry” Hymel, and sister-in-law, Bernie Burke.
He is survived by his wife, Nedra, step-sons, Troy Marble (Jo), Dr. Grant Christensen (Johnne), brothers, Dennis Burke (Linda), David Burke (Nena), Michael Burke, sisters, Judith Liner (Jim), and Nancy Cote (Dick), grandchildren, Nick Marble, Neil Christensen (Marni), Amanda Fraughten(Corky), and Emily Quintana (Daniel).
His family wishes to express their gratitude to the Huntsman Cancer Center and to Evanston hospice nurse, Nick Clark, for their compassionate care during his illness.
At his request, after cremation there will be no formal funeral service.
