ROCK SPRINGS – The city liquor licenses and the all night bar dates were approved by the Rock Springs City Council Tuesday night. Also, several events have the go-ahead to proceed, as well.
This year, the four “all-nighters” will be Saturday, March 15 for St. Patricks Day, Saturday, Aug 2 for the Sweetwater County Big Show, Saturday Oct. 25 for Halloween and Wednesday, December 31 for New Year’s.
The Council also approved all the local liquor licenses. There was a public hearing on the various liquor licenses, but no public comment was made. The licenses include the 27 retail liquor licenses, the two bar and grill liquor licenses which are Coyote Creek and Franklin Restaurants, and the three limited liquor licenses which are the Elks, Eagles and American Legion. Also included are the Bitter Creek Brewing microbrewery license, the resort license of the Holiday Inn, The Inn and The Outlaw Inn and the 11 restaurant liquor licenses throughout the city.
Rock Springs City Administration and Business Director Lisa Tarufelli explained there were two contingencies in the approvals. The first she brought up was Smith’s. She explained to the council they were in the process of transferring the liquor license to their corporate name. Tarufelli said they were taking similar actions in several stores regionally, so it’s not just the Rock Springs store.
The other contingency is Wonderful House. She said they were currently applying through the state.
In both cases, Tarufelli said the issues should be finished by March, which is before the starting date of the licenses in April. The renewal is good for a year starting April 1 of this year and running until March 31 of 2015.
The council unanimously voted Matthew Jackman to fill Councilwoman Rose Mosbey’s term on the Rock Springs Bar and Grill License Committee.
The council approved several requests for events around the area.
The first approval was a request from Varley Merchantile, Point of Rocks, for a liquor catering permit on March 8 for the Godine Family medical Benefit at the Sweetwater Events Complex from 6 p.m. to midnight. This request will also need the approval of the Sweetwater County Commissioners.
On March 1, the Ponderosa Bar, Inc., was approved a liquor catering permit for the Muley Fanatic Foundation Fundraiser, which will also take place at the Sweetwater Events Complex from 3 p.m. to midnight. The request needs the approval of the Green River City Council, as well.
Lews Inc. had two requests for liquor catering permits approved. Both involving the Urban Renewal Agency. The first request is for the URA Chocolate Festival on March 8 from noon to 5 p.m. at the Rock Springs Historical Museum. The second is for the URA Hats and Horses event on May 3 from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Broadway Theater
